sad story...he probably ran away and intended to come home soon. That is, a girl without a job, without money, etc. She wouldn't get very far... however, she may have encountered a predator alone, especially considering this was at night in New York... or she may have been out on the street a couple of days before. that something would happen to him, etc.
The other possibility is that she actually ran away and left town on a bus or train... but that's unlikely, given that she didn't appear to have any money with her when she left the house... The boyfriend didn't seem to be involved, Since she was out of town when this happened. Maybe she just didn't want to be found? Although very sad for his family
That's a good point.. This is a 16 year old girl who was probably drinking, possibly drunk and angry... It was a warm summer's eve and I could see her walking quite a bit to let off some steam, no matter what kind of shoes she was wearing, etc Not that falling into a body of water is common, but it is a possibility, especially if she had alcohol involved.. an angry teenager and bad shoes. Or any number of other things, including foul play, could have happened to him along the way that didn't involve water...
I feel like alcohol is important here. Where did a 16 year old get alcohol? Maybe a shady warehouse clerk? Did he mention something to his boyfriend?
either way
rest in peace

Could this be Denise ? I feel like it could be worth looking into as the older age progression photo has similar facial structure to the sketch and height & age match up.

I would have agreed with you on this possibility except UP2607 has already been excluded from being Denise. She has 52 exclusions.

Questions for Carbuff and Madam X. What is beyond the fence she jumped over? Could she have overdosed? Yes, it is possible. I am a former New Yorker and had a relative who was into drugs. What was going on in 1970 in that neighborhood? This is just my opinion: Regarding the rings, if she met foul play the person could have removed the rings as trophies and she could be a Jane Doe without rings. Cemetery a possibility. How much alcohol did she have? I hope her sister comes back and answers that question. Old timers on the stoop, they could have heard "rumors". Going back to the rings, the two sisters would know what school the boyfriend went too. Also, the friend on the first page could have "heard rumors". All this is my opinion.

The fence she jumped was into the building courtyard the entire block has the same buildings and the courtyard is in the middle it ran from one side to the other. Anyone from the higher floors could look down and see the whole courtyard. I do believe that parts of the courtyard you could end up going out on to the sidewalk of the block too.

I think I posted earlier in the thread an old NY Times article how heroin was going around and there were kids that did OD in the neighborhood. There is also an article early on that the sister mentioned the same but also mentions nobody was taking teenage girls off the streets.

This year will be 55 years Denise is Missing!!!
