Funny, I had the theme song from an old Toyota commercial in my head after reading the title.

"He ASKED for it, He GOT it, Toyota!"

Excuse me if I skip the disclaimer after my post. I was in her shoes and often dreamed of taking the stupid way out, myself. Much more satisfying short term than divorce would be.

Let's see, what devious treatment could we give this guy (yes, I'm sorry he's dead)? I think I would have added a whole bunch of fats and transfats secretly to his food when I served him breakfast/lunch/dinner. Then let him look in the mirror and wonder what happened.

Might be quicker to just buy smaller pants and sew the other size pants lable in them. Certainly dump him for the vast number of men who PREFER big women. (I love those men.)

It sounds like the guy may have been abusive. Fat jokes was probably just was finally made her snap.

OMG, I can't get the "Chicago" soundtrack out of my head now! ("He had it comin', he had it comin', he had it comin' all along..."). Sorry, I don't mean to make light. This is of course a tragedy. Obviously there was a lot more wrong with this marriage than a few fat jokes.

From the link below:
"One neighbor said Redmond-Mercereau said "vicious things about her husband. She said really mean things about him... She couldn't be happy with what she had." The neighbor refused to elaborate but said the comments were so mean she cut off contact with Redmond-Mercereau..."

Maybe the "fat jokes" were his way of fighting back. This woman is smiling and posing for the cameras :

"Do you want me to pose for you?" Mrs. Redmond-Mercereau asked a local freelance news photographer while she took out the trash.
"I feel like a model," she said, flashing a smile before driving away."

Doesn't sound like a woman beaten down by abuse to me. Sounds more like Drew Peterson.

He only had himself to blame.
If you'd have been there
If you'd have seen it
I betcha you would have done the same!

Now it's stuck in my head, too!

I've seen some ugly relationships come to an end lately, and my guess is that we are privvy to very little of what actually went on in that house. I'm not saying that she was right to do this, not at all! Just that I'd need to hear more of the story before I feel comfortable knowing up from down in this case.

From July 2009:

The widow of a New York City fire marshal was sentenced on Thursday to 25 years to life in prison for killing him, a sentence that was greeted by spontaneous applause from a courtroom filled with the dead man’s colleagues, friends and relatives.

The marshal, Douglas Mercereau, 39, was fatally shot on Dec. 2, 2007, while he slept in his bed in his Staten Island home. A jury convicted his wife, Janet Redmond-Mercereau, of second-degree murder on May 21.
