She remained in regular contact with her family until the time of her disappearance. No known vehicle. Sheryl was not reported missing until November 2, 1998. DNA and fingerprints are available. I'm checking with Wall Township to see if they've compared this Doe to Jan Cotta as she's not listed in the exclusions. Jan owned a ring with her intials, J.A.C., and I'm wondering if she took one of her family member's rings as a keepsake/connection when she left. Of note, it appears her mother was Dorothy E. (Broadley) Cotta, and she also had a brother Doug. I have found a Doug E. Cotta around 59 years of age, which would fit. Both could have had the "D.E.C." ring.

The belt and her location reminds me of the Gilgo Beach killer, Rex Heuermann. He would have been a teenager in 1978 though. 15 or 16? I guess it is possible?

I checked and he lived in Massapequa Park which is not that far from East Islip, especially if he was old enough to drive....

I guess anything is possible. People have killed younger. The belt and location are enough to raise my eyebrows.
