PRESS RELEASE:
Cold Case Tuesday: Troop G continues to investigate the 1991 disappearance and subsequent homicide of Edward “Mitt” Croley

State Police in New Scotland and the Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate the murder of Edward “Mitt” Croley.

On March 27, 1991, 14-year-old Edward “Mitt” Croley disappeared off the streets of Albany, New York in the area of Northern Boulevard and Livingston Avenue. His disappearance was reported to the Albany Police Department. Croley had been living with his family on Orange Street. The night before Croley disappeared he had slept at his aunt’s house. The next morning he said he was going to school at the Maywood School in the Town of Colonie, but reportedly never arrived.

On January 8, 1992, woodcutters found Croley’s skeletal remains on private property, in a wooded area east of Route 144, approximately three miles south of NYS Thruway Exit 22 in Selkirk, NY.

A forensic examination of the remains indicated a severe fracture of the right side of the skull as the result of blunt force trauma. The case was ruled a homicide.

Over the years, extensive interviews were conducted by the Troop G Major Crimes Unit, State Police New Scotland Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Albany Police Department. Information was developed that the crime may be drug related.

The State Police Troop G Major Crimes Unit and the BCI Unit at SP New Scotland have made a concentrated effort to solve this homicide and continue to ask for the public’s assistance. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the New York State Police at 518-783-3211. Please refer to case #92-010.

I’m from this area and never heard of this case.

IMO I immediately thought it was due to drugs when I read where he went missing and where the body was found.
IMO people from south of Albany (Selkirk, and further down) , would/still do , go to Albany to buy drugs

ETA even though he was 14, people from out of town would drive around looking for drugs, and since he was out walking to school… not that he’s a dealer, but he probably knew where to get it

ETA he went missing while I was a kid, so probably why I never heard of him, still sad and hope they get answers
