Man faces life in prison after pleading guilty to killing wife

A Madison County man pleaded guilty in County Court on Wednesday to stabbing and killing his wife, then abandoning her body near the Thruway.

George McDonald Jr., 25, of Fyler Road, Kirkville, pleaded guilty before Madison County Court Judge Patrick J. O’Sullivan to one count of second-degree murder, court officials said. McDonald accepted a plea deal of 20 years to life in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 7.

Authorities said McDonald used a kitchen knife and stabbed his wife, 19-year-old Elizabeth “Lizzie” Garrow, multiple times sometime on or after Sept. 23, 2020 in Canastota. Authorities said McDonald then abandoned her body near the Thruway overpass at Main Street in Canastota.

The body was discovered after several days of searching by area law enforcement.
