2015 Ephratah bones discovery continues to puzzle investigators

A crew moving gravel in December 2015 unearths something with an excavator. They think it's just trash – until they look closer. The "trash" was actually human remains that had been buried in a shallow grave.

This was an African-American female, presumptively in her early 20s and about 5 feet, 3 inches tall.

A forensic artist took the mostly skeletal remains and using clay, was able to create a rendering of what the victim might have looked like. However, in three years - investigators have been unable to put a name with the face. They're not even positive the person has been reported missing.

What they are positive of is this was no accidental death. This woman was murdered likely by someone who lived -- and may still live locally. Someone who knew the area well enough to choose a gravel pit far off the beaten path to bury the victim

Bracelets shown above were found on one of the arm bones. The bracelets date back to the 1970's or 1980's.

A wig was also found with the remains.

No lower jaw was recovered.

She could have been killed in the 90's or as recently as 5-6 years ago.

Investigators think whoever dumped her body had to have been familiar with the area.

Circumstances of Recovery

Skeletal remains recovered from a shallow grave in Western Fulton County NY, Town of Ephratah. Remains were located by an excavation crew working in a small, remote gravel quarry. Remains are that of a b/f, late teens to mid twenties. Slender build. Several hoop bracelets were found on the remains. One of which was an Avon "Libra" horoscope bracelet. The remains also had a dark colored wig with several dreadlocks attached. Subject had a large gap between her front teeth.

Does LE have an idea on when this pit was last excavated? Before the 2015 discovery?
Did they query the workmen, or any others that may have worked the pit?
I would think they did.

NAMUS also mentions, "A small bag of decayed clothing was found in the vicinity but can not be tied to the body forensically."

There are seven (7) exclusions for this doe.

Assuming the victim may have been born sometime between September 23-October 22 because of the "Libra" bracelet.

Hmm.. Arm bands and short dreads wig, makes me think of the mid-90's singers like Stacy Chapman, Lauryn Hill and Eryka Badu.

IMHO...There is far more spacing between the teeth of the UID and the UID's brows slant downward.


This is just a guess from me, so take it for what it's worth...
But based on the arm bracelets and short dread wig, we're looking for a young lady probably born around 1980.
Nationwide arm bracelets were in fashion in the early 2000's, but there had been rising popularity in the late 90s due to neo-soul singers like Eryka Badu and Lauryn Hill wearing them. Neo-soul reached it's zenith around 1997.
Again, you've got a girl born around 1980, and who died in her late teens somewhere between 1997-2002.

PS...This young lady probably wore a head wrap when not wearing her wig.
It would be beneficial to see her sketch done with a wrap. I wonder if they found any fabric nearby?

Ephratah, NY is 20 miles from Amsterdam, NY which was a very drug fueled place in the 90's and early 2000's. Poughkeepsie, NY is 2 hrs and 16 minutes from Ephratah, NY, she could have made a drug trip there it is a straight run on the thruway.

Hi HP...nice to see you here. I think she has a different "gap", different pattern of teeth, but lots of other UID's with a "gap" like that. Good to see another pictures of Michelle with teeth.
