GUILTY NY - Garnett Spears, 5, dies of salt poisoning, Chestnut Ridge, 23 Jan 2014

  • #501
Does anyone have a link or access to the video of Lacey and Garnett in the hospital when she's seen taking him into the bathroom to poison him? It's talked about that it was shown in court and happened a couple of days before his death, but I haven't been able to find it.
There is a re-enactment of it in the ID show, with comments by the LE that watched it and are still haunted by it.

Here is a January story by Lohud, which did quite a bit of investigative reporting on this case. It has links to some bits and pieces of the actual trial transcripts. Wish we had the whole thing!

Thanks for reminding me, it's not set to air for another 45 minutes here. I set it to record.

Please let us know a few points that stood out to you. I forgot to record it. Thanks! :)

I was actually pretty disappointed. I didn't learn anything that we didn't already know. I had never seen the hospital videos though, that was horrible to watch. :-(

Oh dear, those videos would be awful. How she can throw blame around is beyond me. Thanks.

Her interview was disgusting. Still lying her pathetic butt off. Told the interviewer that those salt bags were not hers--she didn't leave them in her home....so he asked---' did someone set you up?' And she angrily replied " I didn't say THAT---I said I never put them there"

Ok, then who did? Pffftttttttt....:liar:

Her defense attorney said those videos actually 'exonerate her.' HUH? What planet is he on?

Her denying everything and blaming the hospital was really annoying. She was snotty and bitter, I reeeeeeeeally dislike her.

She even denied asking her neighbor to go in and get the bags. She claims she asked the neighbor to see what the police had been doing. :-/

I think I'll skip watching this show later online. I'd probably want to throw my iPad across the room!

I'm already furious because Kate Parker, here in Oregon, ended up on probation and most charges dropped in her medical child abuse case. She had bought an urn for her son's ashes and told all her friends online he was dying. He almost did. Once they got him away from Momster he recovered. I guess your child has to die before you get jail time. Grrrrrrr.

Yeah, I didn't get a whole lot new about it, other than the pediatric G.I. doc who wanted to remove the G-tube, and that there were suspicions early on about her and Munchasen's and he had sodium problems at only a few weeks old. They also did interview the biological father and the one she claimed died. Both seemed like nice guys. It was interesting to see her bald-face lie.

He won't win, especially when Garnett's sodium levels spiked as soon as he came out of the bathroom with her!!!

I had never heard of this case until watching 48 hours.

Wow.

Watching the videos of Garnett in the hospital room are so heartbreaking to me.

His "mother" was so smug in the interview. I just wanted to throw up all over her stupid face.

WELL....That program was quite a tour on the denial river~ Thought my DH, who also attended some of the trial, was going to take out the TV and our dog spent the show UNDER the couch rather than on it with us! Points that stood out: the pediatric GI's "gut feeling", her denial regarding the neighbor, everybody finally observing the hospital video (and yes, she HAD been told the area covered by the lens for her privacy!), and her unbelievable revisionist "family history" of Garnett with her as the "savior". I wish that the program had covered MBP in more detail and debunked the inmate's statement of no "psychiatric issues" (OH PLEASE!)
AND.....the possible medical malpractice suit...............WOW, what a waste of everything to even consider THAT avenue to vindicate the inmate! Laboratory protocol ALONE will show that the hospital(s) staff were on a mission to heal that child, ASAP. Multiple confirmatory tests were done (PS: with new blood specimens!) and done in duplicate by different medical technologists/clinical laboratory scientists.
Lacey Spears needs to FADE into the darkness of the prison, IMHO, NO more publicity!

I contacted her defense attorneys about diabetes insipidus. Diabetes insipidus has several causes. When I saw that show, it was so obvious that was the problem. Unfortunately, even when it is diagnosed, doctors, pediatricians, pediatric specialists miss it or don't believe it. They are still thrown off by the sodium levels and the sudden spikes.

The 17 trips to the bathroom was a major clue. Fevers are another clue.

The child could have been saved had he been diagnosed and treated properly.

This poor mother. How tragic.
