Those pictures are probably the best examples of extreme purpura. I’ve seen plenty of older people with purple skin bruising. Spots. Dots. Streaks. None look like the pictures in the article.
Many older people have heart conditions and are on blood thinners which makes you more prone to bruising and/or hematomas. My husband had a heart attack and had a stent inserted. He has to take ticagrelor and aspirin daily for at least a year to stop clots forming in the stent. This is a stock photo but he had a bruise just like this on the lower arm. The bruise lasted about 2 weeks but the hematoma is still there.
