He's so active, lol. Running all the time. Very cute. I can't stand the YouTube chat this year tho. Constant complaining and moaning, blah. Anyway, we missed the birth live by three minutes yesterday, lol! We'd been watching in the car and baby G was sticking out the same amount the whole time (hooves). In the time it took for us to park and walk inside and wash our hands, he came rolling out! Haha. Quick scroll back and we saw it. I'm surprised he was up so quickly!

We are happy to report, the new calf has had a strong and adventurous first couple days of life!

The little guy is up 5 lbs from yesterday! To us, this means mom is producing milk and baby is nursing successfully!

His ossicones (black hair tufts at this time) have stood up on his head!

The calf has been observed by Giraffe Cam viewers, stretching those legs in full stride, galloping around mom, April! She certainly has her hooves full with this one!

We have a pretty active little dude it seems!

We need a name for the baby boy! He weighed 139 lbs and is 5' 11" tall. Born 3/16/2019 @ 12:43 pm EDT.

In case anyone else was curious, at birth, Scooter weighed 129 pounds and stood 5 feet 9 inches tall. I thought Scooter looked bigger at birth and was surprised at this.

I have noticed that also. It seems he is talking to his dad Oliver at times. Lots of bonding going on.

I thought the other day it looked like April was kissing her baby on the lips. So Sweet!

We have a name!

Azizi (Ah-ZEE-ZEE) "Azi" "Az"

Fans cast their votes in an online naming contest, narrowing the options down to a pool of 20 names. Fans ultimately picked ‘Keeper’s Choice’, passing the big decision to the beloved giraffe care team. The team chose to honor one of the top 20 name selections voted on by our fans.

Azizi, having a few origins, has meanings that truly identify with the personality of the young male giraffe. Precious, powerful, beloved, and “the mighty one” are descriptive of our independent calf, that will someday grow to a possible eighteen feet and weigh over 2,000 pounds. Other top contenders included Finnegan, Apollo, and Zumi.

Ha! Yeah we all know, April has the best Love of All from her children and offspring!

Oliver May impregnate another one, and then he will just move on to a younger one.

And then he will get old and have no one and be put out to pasture.

Oops! I'm humanizing the giraffes.

There’s a new addition at the Kansas City Zoo.

Lizzie the giraffe gave birth to a baby girl Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 3:50 p.m.

The calf, who has not yet been named, weighed 111 pounds and stood 5 feet 6 inches tall.
