The family told The Buffalo News they believe they know who is responsible for killing Marrero and her father and are concerned that the killer is still free.

In an interview with ABC Buffalo, family members allege that Marrero’s boyfriend killed her father, who was trying to protect his daughter, and then murdered her.

Norma Coppola, Marrero’s cousin, alleged that the boyfriend abused Marrero.

I hope LE is able to gather all the evidence necessary to make an arrest and put this punk away forever.

They said she was a prisoner of her relationship. "He used to track her on her phone and cuss her out until she got into the house. Once she got to the house on Donovan Drive, that's where he would meet her and beat her. That's how her relationship was," N.C., Jalia's cousin, said. The family said the abusive relationship resulted in her and her father's deaths.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo police say 18-year-old Jalia Marrero was found dead in a wooded area in North Buffalo June 6. Marrero was reported missing on May 21, and she was last seen around May 8 or 9. Her family said they have not received updates or answers from law enforcement in about a month.

"It's frustrating because again we're looking at the loss of a vibrant young lady who is not spending the summer celebrating her graduation," Pastor Tim Newkirk, of GYC Ministries Community Action Coalition, said.

Jalia's family said all she wanted was to graduate high school. Her dad, Luis Marrero, was just as excited.

The Medical Examiner's Office has not released a cause of death, so her family does not know how or when she died.

Chris Bellings, the former Homicide Chief at the Erie County District Attorney's Office, said those results could take a lot longer.

"The medical examiners office is first of all very busy. Second of all, [it's] usually chronically understaffed. They take their time to do the job correctly," Bellings said.

I know Jalia and Luis' family are upset with a lack of answers and movement at this point. I firmly believe once the ME has completed the investigation, there will be an arrest. My thoughts are with them while they wait.

Agreed, but they're not just upset with the lack of answers and movement, they're terrified that Jalia's "boyfriend" (abuser) will Shoot them dead next. How terrifying.
