Can you site any other cases where the spouse or family fought the public's help like this?

Definitely not off the top of my head! I think the resistance to help is just plain bizarre. I'm going to pick through some cases and see...

Question for those more familiar with Jennifer's family - have her mother and other relatives discouraged a search somewhere besides Facebook? We're not relying on her husband's page for info, right?

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Richard Cobb, who is handling the investigation, said while authorities appreciate the interest shown by local residents in helping to find Ramsaran, they will not endorse any search by civilians.

Stated Cobb, “If there is any reason to search an area we would have already searched there or will be searching there. Our greatest concerns with untrained civilians doing this on their own are their safety and the impact they could have on any evidence, if any were found.”

Authorities, of course, have both the proper training and equipment to conduct searches of this kind, he added, while many civilians do not.

That is the stance of the police on searches. Jennifer's family - her mother, her sister, her husband, and other family members - want to comply with that stance, as any family member who cares about a missing family member would and should.

I'm dumbfounded at the trashing of LE and the family. Just dumbfounded. I've never seen anything like it.

I don't think any of us are trashing LE or the family. We are simply confused and trying to make sense of it all. I haven't seen any "trashing" going on here. And to say that you don't agree with something, or don't understand something, or would do something differently if it were you, is not trashing or being disrespectful. If everything in this world were taken at face value and never questioned, where would we be?

JMO. Not trying to be snippy.

If I had a friend or loved one missing, and had never read places like WS then I would truly believe that LE had everything under control. Afterall, I am inexperienced and it is their job to figure out what happened. So I can understand any family relying on LE that they know everything and will figure things out.

As we know, that isn't always the case. LE does their best, but there is power in numbers...and really a community helping is priceless. We can look back at the example by Whitney Heichel's church members, friends and family...they got out right away and found almost all the evidence...had they not, there never would have been that quick of an arrest and knowing what happened.

I would like the same for JR....please family and friends....don't stay silent...she needs you!

The Whitney Heichel case is an excellent example of how the community mobilized to help find a missing person. It was phenomenal how Whitney's church came together to look for her, or any evidence that would lead to her. JMO, MOO

Thankyou, is that the one run by the husband?

It is suspected that it's run by the husband and a friend or two of JR's who live in Arizona, I believe.

I guess I wrongly assumed that any evidence in any condition was better than no evidence at all.

This case is really starting to resemble Gail Palmgren's case. I hope this doesn't turn out anything like that one!!

I've never heard of this one, so I did a quick google and it looks like she was found to have crashed her vehicle? I didn't read any further than that. How horrible. :(

You almost have to wonder about some kind of mental breakdown on the part of Jennifer, during which she could have wandered away after leaving her car. I went through a bunch of websleuths threads where the missing person turned up alive, and found many where the person was found at a hospital, or found wandering disoriented somewhere (and subsequently taken to the hospital). Then there are cases like Mitrice Richardson and Cayle Bywater who apparently had something going on mentally, but were found deceased.

In this case, no one has said anything at all about JR acting strangely or having any sort of emotional or mental problems. And you would think that if this were thought to be a possiblity, searches would be encouraged (because she could be out there in need of assistance) rather than so highly discouraged.

Just thinking out loud about an alternate possiblity. I want to believe that GR would not have done anything, and for so long I thought that surely he didn't. Maybe he's just awkward and goofy, accounting for his "odd" behavior. But unfortunately, every little tid-bit that has been put out there tends to point towards one thing. If it turns out that I'm wrong in thinking so, I'll be the first in line to apologize.

After seeing so many of these missing persons cases drag on for months and even years with little to no information from LE, I am beginning to think that families are going to have to take a much more proactive role if they want to find their loved ones sooner. No disrespect to LE, but I think limited resources, lack of adequate training in some cases, and competing interests, hamper the ability to solve cases quickly. It may mean that families will have to start pooling financial resources and/or start a missing person fund if need be, consult a lawyer to ensure they don't run afoul of laws or hamper LE's investigation, and then hire a private investigator to help them to find their missing loved one. The private investigator can then coordinate with professional search organizations as necessary. Perhaps, in some cases, the public is placing more faith in LE's ability to solve missing persons cases without help, than is warranted. JMO, MOO
This is a thoughtful, proactive, resourceful, visionary post..

I will be studying this... And digesting the suggestions... While thinking of new, more effective ways of finding missing persons!

If my post has been mistaken as trashing LE and the family, please know that that was not my intent. I'm only speaking from experience. I don't want people to make the same mistakes. So if I am "trashing" the actions of her family and LE, then I am in turn trashing my family's actions. If that is anyone's opinion, that is fine. I'm willing to take that hit if it means that maybe someday people can use my story to make their story have a happier ending.

Earlier, the husband states "30+ Investigators" - I looked at the size of the Chenango County Sheriff LE Division. It is 23 Full time. Note: Nothing on the Sheriff's web site about Jennifer. Seems like alot of Investigators for our rural county w/ only 2 detectives.

The Law Enforcement Division is led by Lt. Richard Cobb. It consists of

twenty-four (23) full-time sworn Deputies which consist of:

1 - Patrol Lieutenant, 3 - Patrol Sergeants, 2 - Detectives,

15 - Road Patrol Deputies, 1 - Civil Deputy,

1 - K-9 German Shepherd Police Dog named “Elvis”.

I supposed he has 28 more investigators from outside the area helping. Is this the norm?

I wonder if there are investigators from other places that have come in to help maybe? I can't remember any mention of FBI being involved, but maybe I missed it. I'm grasping at straws here. Not saying that 30+investigators has never happened, just that it's not the norm.

I'm wondering if he's just being dramatic when he says this. He seems to say everything with a dramatic, emotional, overstated flair, IMO.

These agencies were involved during the search of the family home and surroundings:

Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr. said law enforcement agencies, including the New York State Police, New York State Park Rangers, Sheriff’s Office and New Berlin and Norwich police departments are “making some headway,” but admitted the process is both slow and tedious.

Understood..

And thank you for being "boots on the ground" for those of us who are unable to make any physical searches! :seeya:

It's been reported that husband found his wife's cell phone not LE.

Wonder whether the family/husband had been discouraged from searching initially after Jennifer was reported missing, or after cell and vehicle were discovered.

respectfully snipped and BBM

I've wondered this too, especially about one person in particular. But then I tell myself that I've just seen way too many 48 Hours Mystery episodes.

Let me just speak hypothetically here. IF the best friend of a missing person were having an affair with the missing person's husband, then that obviously raises all kinds of red flags about the husband. But what about the supposed "best friend"? Cheating behind your best friend's back with her husband is about the lowest of the low, and if someone lives their life with that set of morals (or lack thereof), then how can they really be trusted in any way, shape, or form?

I'm trying to be careful what I say here, but there's just no other way to say it and I wanted to put it out there, b/c it's a thought I've had. Again, I'm speaking hypothetically.
Hypothetically speaking... I understand and agree with you... Hypothetically..

I took a drive today around the area. It is so difficult this time of year because of the snow, but I drove up and down a couple of dirt roads. One road had an incline on one side that appeared would be a good place to dispose of something you would want anyone to find. The incline then flattens out a little, then down again to a stream. All this on private property so I didn't dare attempt to go down. Very few homes on this road and very secluded. There were also fields that appeared could be driven on, but not with this snow, and again private property. There is such a vast area around here that needs to be searched by professionals. Feeling very helpless, as I know many people in this area feel at this time.

What roads were you on?

Thank you so much for finding this info. Makes it much easier to understand how he came up with the 30+investigators.
