That's a worrying hypothetical... I don't know much about grand juries but googling suggests they can indite even without a body so that suggests circumstantial evidence can be enough.

Sayles said in a sworn affidavit filed with Ackerman’s motion that, in 2012, amid having “certain matrimonial problems” with her husband, Patrick Sayles, that she “did unfortunately participate in an extramarital affair” with Ramsaran ...

Certainly was unfortunate - for Jennifer, and her children.

Tad Di Biase has a lot of info about the prosecution of no body cases on his website here. I get the impression he wouldn't see not having a cause of death as any reason not to get a conviction. He's a real specialist in these most difficult of cases though.

Ackerman said he “understands the judge’s reasoning”, But he noted it is “a bit awkward”.

Awkward? Really, they're worried about awkward? The population in Chenango Co. is small. Anyone concerned about "awkward" should have thought ahead.

To make that statement suggests that the DA has excellent evidence in this case, imo. And I really hate typing this, but I think that Jennifer's body told LE a great deal of what they needed to know, to prosecute GR.

Yeah well I guess it may be a bit awkward trying to dream up some kind of defense that doesn’t involve lies for a murdering adulterer and his contributing adultress - poor Ackerman <sarcasm>

Today is the big day for the benefit for Jennifer's children. I hope it goes really well. I checked the weather and it looks like the risk of thunderstorms has gone and there isn't even any rain.

I've been following as best I can what's been happening, and the ideas, energy, creativeness and compassion there has been wonderful to watch. I guess everyone will be far too busy to update us today, but I'm really looking forward to hearing how it went.

I am glad there is this bit of loveliness, in the run-up to the trial. Hopefully we won't hear too much more from GR and/or his attorney, before it actually begins. I'm not looking forward to hearing what they will say at the trial itself, either, but at least and end to THAT part of it will be in sight then.

I wonder if Joe will cover the trial, or if there will be a court reporter instead? I hope not, as he has been with Jennifer's case since the beginning, and it wouldn't feel right without him.

I don't think this article by Joe about the fundraiser has been linked yet? Maybe the paper will run a picture from the event later. I hope so.

On Jennifer's FB page they are saying it went really well and they raised $2,559 for the children. Jennifer's Mom has thanked everyone for their support too. I'm so glad an event's taken place where all Jennifer's loved ones could feel supported.

Oh, Jennifer's sister is on the FB page now, thanking everyone and saying God Bless them all. I'm so moved by this - it's been so much more than a fundraiser, in my opinion. This was reaching out to a victim's family, helping them and supporting them and putting a stop to the unneccessary torment they were going through.

I believe some of those supporters have been through horrendous times, and some of them still encounter things that would really disturb me, if I were local. I think some of those brave people may have been posting here ( not sleuthing!). I would just like to say thank you to everyone who cared for Jennifer, because I really believe that support made all the difference in this case. From very far away or near, I think eventually, someway, somehow, we have all done Jennifer proud, in whatever way we could.

Exactly what she deserved all along. Jennifer's up where she belongs now, and bless her and her loved ones, and all those who supported them. There's other kinds of justice, besides the jailhouse. One of those was achieved this weekend, in my opinion.

We all met some for the first time for many of us, changed quite shy people to see all types of us care for this family, cried at the dedicated song to Jenns MEMORY. Amazing Grace. i'm thinking that evidence was compromised given that she was out in the elements for so long. wildlife is abundant where she was found. i hate to say it, but i think this case is going to involve circumstantial evidence. :jail:
