Why do the police think John has left the area. I assume police have interviewed the parents, family, friends and teachers to get some insight into John's state of mind in recent weeks. Maybe they found evidence that suggests that John was planning to leave home such as missing clothes and or cash or social media searches. I have not seen any public statements from John's parents or family but maybe they want to keep this a private matter.

Yes, probably they don't want the whole world to know the background of him missing. I've seen that in many other missing persons cases and I can understand that. Your private live and pictures will be "all over". Especially for young people this can be damaging if they are found (soon) after they went missing. And most of them are coming home after a few days or weeks. When the missing person stays away longer, mostly families will disclose more information, most of the time they have to if they want people to be and stay on the look out. sharing on social media. I learned the other day that people are more willing to do this if they can relate to a story, helping to get compassion for the missing person and their family.

I am too. There seemed to be so little details throughout this entire case. Prayers for the family during this difficult time.

Looked to see if any new information had been posted online....found a bit more information in one of the news stories posted when he was found. I could only find this bit on NNY360 so I cannot validate its authenticity...

"His body was reportedly discovered in a field not far from the rear of a barn on the property. Sexton was dressed in clothing that indicated he had planned to do chores in the barn. Recent warmer weather melted snow that had covered the body. [...] Information about how Sexton died will likely be determined as a result of the autopsy, Langdon said."

If true this answered my question about how they didn't discover the body earlier with it being so close to his home. Did he have a fatal accident and succumbed quickly? Was the barn out-of-the-way enough that he could have had an incapacitating accident and no one heard his cries for help?? I guess medical issue is an option but for a healthy 18 year old? Can never rule out suicide before COD is released but why start doing barn work and end your life in such an uncomfortable cold environment?

According to State Police Troop B Public Information Officer Trooper Jennifer Fleishman, the cause and manner of Sexton’s death is still pending toxicology reports, but foul play is not suspected.

An autopsy was performed at the University of Vermont Health Network, Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital in Plattsburgh on Nov. 27.
