GUILTY NY - Johynita Jordan, 69, found dead in apt, clothing found in park, Staten Island, Jan 2019 *arrest*

69-year-old Johynita Jordan was reported missing from her apartment on Jan. 18 and her body was found on the second floor of a home on Van Duzer Street on Sunday. Her clothes were found in Sobel Court Park and a K-9 unit led officers to the house.

On the south side of the Sobel Court Park is 55 Bowen Street where 57-year-old Beatrice Kaliku, a home health aide, was recently assaulted and suffered severe injuries. Police say 31-year-old Linden Beaton, who is a level 3 sex offender, has been charged with assaulting the aide.

At the time, sources said surveillance video showed 31-year-old Linden Beaton -- a registered sex offender -- leading Jordan into the vacant house. He was the only one who later walked out. Investigators had said they were looking into whether Jordan was sexually assaulted, though it wasn't clear as of Thursday if they determined that she had been. He also remained a person of interest and had not been charged in Jordan's case.

Trial date set for man, 35, accused in rape and murder of Staten Island woman, 69

At a conference on Wednesday, Justice Mario F. Mattei scheduled jury selection in the defendant’s trial for May 23 in state Supreme Court, St. George.

The trial is expected to last well into June.

Linden Beaton, 35, was sentenced to more than 100 years in prison for a slew of charges tied to the 2019 killing of 69-year-old Johnyita Jordan, including second-degree murder, first-degree rape and kidnaping. Some of the charges will run concurrently and others consecutively.

“You should spend eternity in prison,” Mattei told the defendant. “There’s a reason our legislature has deemed that some people ... deserve a life sentence. And you’re a person who checks all those boxes.”
