Found Safe NY - Karol Sanchez, 16, kidnapped, Bronx, 16 Dec 2019

Wonder how she would have felt if a good Samaritan or possibly even a NYCPO stepped in with a firearm and tried to prevent the "fake" kidnapping from happening and shot and killed one of the men?

Hope she is punished to the fullest.

I figured this was the case. Sigh. Glad she's safe.

Staged so she would be with her Crip boyfriend. This girl needs help.

I heard about this through instagram, and she needs help from therapists, condemnation on social media isnt really helping her. She is also 16 years old, dating a 23 year old, a 23 year old who is a Crip, now that's a recipe for disaster. Power imbalances generally occur in these kind of age-gap relationships at a young age, our brain isn't fully developed until the age of 25, and not to mention the difference in experiences. Full adults have no business dating teens.

I know Karol is only 16, but IMO, even *6* is old enough to understand that you do not waste the police's time and resources for something not real.

If even one kid had to repay the money, the next would definitely think twice about reporting a hoax.

Wow yes this girl needs some therapy but considering who her BF is she is lucky she survived. I sure hope she wasn't "passed around" Such a waste of time and resources. Not to mention the terror to her Mother, Family and Community.

<snip> ...Call records also showed she had been in contact with an inmate at Rikers who was released just a few days before her apparent kidnapping, according to the official.

In the course of questioning, she admitted that the incident was staged and she had been coordinating with the former inmate, who she admitted was one of the the alleged kidnappers, in the moments leading up to the incident, the official said.

Prosecutors from the Bronx D.A.'s office do not intend to file charges against Sanchez at this time, though investigators do want to speak with the man she identified as helping her to carry out the staged kidnapping, according to the official.

I have a question ... if it's a staged kidnapping, can the people who took her still be charged with actual kidnapping?

But what were they trying to accomplish? They said she did not want to go back to Honduras? So she thought her family would just leave without her?

Well whatever charges can be brought should be IMO. At the very least whoever shoved the Mother to the ground should be charged with assault.

I wonder why she was that desperate to not have to go to Honduras.

I wonder why she was that desperate to not have to go to Honduras.

Honduras can be a very, very scary place. Some of my young people are from there and never want to go back. If the rumors are true that she was dating a gang member from a particular gang, then, she may have some issues with gangs in Honduras as well.

So many of us have it fairly easy with little to no violence in our lives. Many people, especially young and impoverished, struggle to stay away from gangs. The young people I work with are in a constant state of flux with the prevalence of gangs in their schools and neighborhoods. If a gang wants you, it can be dangerous to resist. Once in a gang, there are often rituals where other gangs look for an isolated member and beat the daylights out of them--which becomes incentive to stay in the gang.

IF she did help to orchestrate this kidnapping, then it is important that she and everyone else is held accountable. However, it may be that she had believed she had no choice but to go along if her boyfriend is in a gang and wanted her to stay. Disobeying the gang can result in serious injury or death as evidenced by some MS13 deaths, Trinitario deaths (machete death of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz),etc. Gangs have sway in their areas as well as neighboring areas. A list of active gangs can be found here: Category:Gangs in New York City - Wikipedia

Makes me wonder... Supposedly it's such a desperate situation there in terms of public safety, that thousands of Hondurans make the dangerous trek each year to illegally enter the US.

"While matters have improved a little, the U.S. Department of State recommends travelers take extreme care when visiting Honduras, assigning it a Level 3 travel advisory of "Reconsider travel." The country has a problem with gang activity, and armed robbery, drug trafficking, rape and violent street crime are widespread ..."

Even if her family are here in the US illegally, NYC is a sanctuary city, so there's no rush or fear that is making them leave.

All these fake attacks and fake kidnappings are really undermining the seriousness of the real incidents...
So many fake ones now, it's getting old.
