Could he have done it in a post-ictal fugue state? That would seem possible to me.
Or maybe he has temporal lobe epilepsy?

This may have effected his flight/ fight response with these type of seizures.
His limbic system may have been altered during the seizure.

I too had seizures in the past. They can effect emotions.

True he had violent reactions and JBean describes her sons actions in seizures so I do have to reserve my opinion till we know more.

From October 2014:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/07/n...-not-responsible-in-mothers-2012-killing.html

A man who was charged in 2012 with murdering his mother — her last words captured on a 911 recording — was allowed on Monday to enter a plea under which he was found not responsible by reason of mental disease or defect.

The agreement, with the Manhattan district attorney’s office, permitted the man, Henry Wachtel, to be released from custody and transferred to a private inpatient treatment center. Prosecutors and defense lawyers said Mr. Wachtel did not understand his actions at the time of the killing because he was in an altered state brought on by an epileptic seizure...

After his treatment there, he will be committed to the Office of Mental Health, prosecutors said, adding that state doctors would determine the conditions and length of his stay.
