On Friday, police were still patrolling the block, as friends and relatives came to pay their respects. Owen was so well-liked but her relatives placed a 'no trespassing' sign out front today, telling reporters to leave, and calling her death 'a family tragedy.'

Nursing Student Found Slain in Suburban Home After Not Showing Up to Daughter's After-School Program

“We looked at the house, and there are no obvious signs of break-in,” Nassau Police Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said at Thursday’s news conference.

Fitzpatrick said there is no motive and no suspects at this time.

Something not obvious to most but an undercurrent with the staff and parents? We’re there PTA meetings over the holiday break?

I do wonder if everyone living in the home has been cleared by LE.

I also wonder whether asphyxiation was caused by manual strangulation, ligature strangulation, smothering, etc.

LE has said there were no signs of a break-in, but they haven't stated whether or not there were any signs of a struggle in KO's bedroom or anywhere else in the home.

My heart breaks especially for her young daughter. From her Facebook, it appears they had just taken a family trip to Disney. I’m glad her daughter will have those memories from that trip.

I have heard nothing about any men in her life, either current or ex.

Having had children that went all through the schools here and having been somewhat active with pta and class parents, I cannot believe that has anything to do with this.

Her funeral is today. Just one four hour viewing and a cremation. That seems much more rushed as far as services are usually done here. The family may just want to mourn privately.

Good to know. I’m glad to hear the PTA is not a source of strife. That is a pretty quick burial process but I guess most cremations are. This is puzzling for sure.

Have you seen her Facebook? He was front and centre in their recent family trip [jan 5th]. They seemed to be very close. I would expect to hear something from him at some point.

I guess he could have been at school or out of town. I wonder if her parents left at the same time in the morning on the school run? Thanks for the link, I had seen her fb but new people may not have.

There are two brothers. Only one lives at home I believe. I think visiting the older brother was part of the recent trip. It is a comfort(I am sure only a small one) that they took that trip. Heartbreaking loss for her family.

Someone walking in a hoodie early in that area would not be out of the ordinary. It is only a few houses to the main road and the elementary school is right across the road. Further down that road is the high school. Behind the elementary school is a wooded pathway that leads to a preserve. So many places one could leave a car along the many exits and entrances to the preserve and not be seen in the immediate area for very long.

I am sorry that I was unclear. Someone had posted that someone sneaking around would stand out. I meant that in my opinion someone could have been in the area and blended in. There has been no information that anyone was or was not seen in the area. It would not be unusual in that neighborhood for people to be walking around during the day. I should have quoted the post.
