It's hard to find a precedent for an obituary before evidence of death

In searching for information on missing persons believed to have been last located in the area of Niagara Falls, i have encountered several obituaries in instances where no remains have been stated as found. It seems common practice in these instances that the date the person was considered missing is the date given as date of death.
