I am new to this site and was looking for some help. Back in the early 90s I moved out of a rental and my sister took it over from me. Across the street lived a recluse in a shack. No electric no water (come later to find out he was a severe hoarder). We would see him daily walking on the main rd to the store would never accept a ride or even respond. Not to get into too much detail this man came to be murdered and my father discovered the body. At the time and for years later I was often questioned by Joe Sinagra and Jerry Kelder Re this murder. The man was found duct taped and sodomized. From what I know to this day it is the only unsolved murder case in the Ulster County along with a similar case in which they thought the two were connected. I am reaching out to any sleuths Who might be able to dig up some info on this case for me I have reason to believe I may know who was involved in this homicide and for reasons I’d rather not say right now mainly I don’t have proof I prefer a fresh set of eyes to look into the murder. Below is some info
Joe Sinagra was a Det Who worked the case out of town of Ulster police station in ny along with Jerry Kelder Who is now deceased. Sinagra is now the chief of Saugerties town police. Murder occurred on sawkill Park rd in the town of Kingston ny in the mid to late 90s body was discovered by my father on his bday aug 27 I prefer to keep my family names out of this for now. Anyone who would like to help or can tell me how to go about finding out some additional info please message me. Thank you.

I believe this is his name date body found 8/27/92: Larry Atkins, 44, in Kingston; asphyxiated.

Very sad stories. Thank you for posting them. Hopefully this violent perp is behind bars somewhere, and their DNA just hasn't hit.

Hi !! I have a (not really popular) blog. Maybe 100 people read it. I write it because I enjoy doing it. I live in the area of these two murders. I only recently discovered these unsolved cases and plan to write a story soon. I’ll use the little bit of info that is known from what I can Google. If I hear of anything new I will let you know.
Also there is a Facebook page called Hudson Valley Cold Cases and Missing People. They posted this a few years ago:
On August 27 , 1992 neighbors on Sawkill Park road in Kingston NY began to grow worried about a reclusive neighbor . Larry Atkins was 44 years old . Mostly a loner by choice he kept to himself but was seen almost every day by his neighbors walking into Kingston or eating his lunch or dinner outside on his lawn . He had some mental difficulties and lived on a 400 dollar per month disability check . He did from time to time help an acquaintance deliver fresh eggs from local farms for some extra money . While his home which by all accounts was described as a hoarders shack and was always a mess inside , he was however meticulous about his yard and his lawn was always kept neatly manicured . While the home had no running water he would collect rain water to serve his needs . His parents had both passed away years before leaving him the small ramshackle house . When his started to grow tall and no one on the road had seen him walking or in his yard for a couple weeks the neighbor who lived across the street decided to do a wellness check .The neighbor found that the door was open . He walked inside and found the badly decomposed body of Larry Atkins . He wasn't just peacefully deceased however . The neighbor saw that Atkins had been tied up . In the very early days of the investigation the police tried to tell the worried residents that he had possibility committed suicide but the word had gotten out about how he had been found tied up and the residents of sawkill park road needed answers .sadly those answers would never come . When Larry was found he had been bound with colored tape and what appeared to be novelty handcuffs used to secure his hands to his feet, also used was a distinctive heavy-duty rope with red and blue strands woven into its fibers. The tape was a specialty item used for underground applications, such as power lines . 4 years later , another recluse , Robert Gordon who also lived in an inherited shack near kingston would also be found in very much the same way . Robert gordon however , always carried a money pouch which has never been recovered leading some to believe the motive may have been robbery in that case . In Larry Atkins case a motive has never been clear . If you know what happened to Larry Atkins in the summer of 1992 or you know who may have killed him you are asked to call New York state police , kingston division at 845-338-1702 Thank you !!!
