Mystery has surrounded her death for the last two years, but sources now say Gomez was identified as a possible suspect just several days after the murder. Police had previously questioned employees, former staff and her relatives after she was found dead in the laundry room by a caretaker.
But it took authorities a few days to identify him because he was not a full-time member of staff with long ties to the family, The Journal News reports.
Authorities believed Gomez had already fled the country by the time they realized he was a suspect.
They suspected Gomez was in his native Guatemala, but investigations uncovered he was in Mexico.
Authorities had been planning to get him extradited back to the US when he was deported.
Gomez was tracked down in Miami, Florida last week and was taken into custody.

He apparently had a Workers Comp beef with the Colley family. Workers Comp board hasn't disclosed what the status of that case was at the time of the murder, but I think we can extrapolate from the subsequent events that the decision went against the accused.

Imagine how frightening it must have been for Mrs. Colley to find this creep in her house, uninvited. In the local paper, the articles appear to indicate that he was looking for some member of the family other than Mrs. Colley, but decided at that point that any one of them could take what he was ready to dish out. I didn't know her (have just seen her around town), but all of the accounts I'm familiar with say she was a nice lady.

Annnddd...it looks like the accused did, in fact, lose his Workers Comp case, and went to the Colley house several days later. Was he hoping to plead his case to the Colley family, or did he walk into their house uninvited, as part of a planned assault?

The title of the thread shows an arrest but there weren't any links or details so I have updated to include the following information and links. The alleged killer was a former laborer at the farm/estate, had a conflict with the family and was identified as soon as several days after the murder. He fled to Mexico but was subsequently arrested in Florida.

Lois Colley’s killer pled guilty today; happy that her family will not have to endure a trial.
