Schenectady County man pleads guilty to raping, impregnating 11-year-old

He will be sentenced in October to 24 years in prison and 20 years post-release supervision on the rape charge and 2 1/3 to seven years on the perjury charge. Those sentences will be served concurrently.

Tuesday, January 7th:
*Sentencing Hearing (@ ET) – NY – Girl (11) (gave birth in Nov. 2018, Town of Niskayuna) – *Robert F. Cronin (33) arrested & charged (1/14/19) & arraigned (2/6/19 & 4/3/19) with 1st degree rape (felony predator sexual assault against a child younger than 13), 1st degree perjury (felony) & misdemeanor child endangerment. Plead not guilty on all charges. No bond.
Cronin (engaged & has 5 children) claims the girl became pregnant when she came into contact with an article of clothing he had used while masturbating on. Felony complaint says it happened between Feb. & March, 2018, she gave birth Nov., 2018.
2/6/19 Update: Had Arraignment hearing. Plead not guilty.
4/3/19 Update: Article said arraignment hearing was held & indicted with one count each of predatory sexual assault against a child, a high-level felony, first-degree perjury, a felony, and misdemeanor child endangerment. Plead not guilty to new charge of 1st degree perjury. No further dates available.
6/16/19 Update: Next hearing on 1/7/20.
8/16/19 Update: Plead guilty to 1st degree rape & 1st degree perjury. As part of his plea agreement, Cronin waived his right to appeal the conviction and the sentence he received. Will serve 24 years in prison. Will be sentenced in October. 10/31/19: Sentencing rescheduled for 1/7/20.

Robert Cronin showed no emotion in the courtroom this morning, even as the victim gave a powerful and emotional statement.
Back in August, he pleaded guilty to perjury and raping a child under the age of 13, a child he had gotten pregnant.

I had a similar thought. I think he molested one (or more) of his girlfriends children. When this poor girl became pregnant he convinced her mom to marry him so she couldn't testify against him.

Just because she is married to him does not mean she cannot testify against him. It only means she cannot be forced to testify.
