I suspect he's more unclaimed than unidentified. The address associated with the aforementioned Richard Shemtob is <1 mile from the hospital where he was pronounced. And yes, the photo does look a decent amount like the PM pic.

If he was 60-80 in 2015, he'd be born between 1935-1955. There was a Richard Shemtob at Stuyvesant High School in NYC in the 1957 yearbook...they said his face was recognizable, I wonder if they compared it to this photo? He does appear to have brown eyes. View attachment 584157

Ancestry dot com shows that Richard Shemtob lived at 521 Park Ave, NY, and before that at 2670 Frederick Douglass Blvd, Manhattan birthdate July 1940. Think that’s him?

Yes I think that is him I was looking him up last night and something came up with the Fredrick douglas blvd address and the name Carol popped up too. I was going to post it here but I fell asleep and now I can’t find it…. today someone said his wife Carol was buried at Hart Island … so with that said yes I think that is him!



Never mind I found it. Here is the link and mentions her and a couple of other people as relatives… unless Carol was his sister …… but now it looks like on this site Carol is 84 but does not say deceased.

I believe 8 ave got renamed yes. they do that often here in the neighborhoods when people or groups petition for it…but most times they still leave the original street plaque and add the new one with the name or below it. That is from the ones I have seen .

Getting further toward next of kin. Per general searches of his name, he is associated with Charlotte L Shemtob. So I searched her on Ancestry dot com. Her date of birth is 5/12/1913, and on a passenger list for Swissair on 7/28/1962, she was American and lived at 87 Barrow St, NY on that date.

NEXT, she is listed as a departing passenger 7/3/1954 on the exact same passenger list as Moussa Shemtob (Source: Ancestry.com. U.S., Departing Passenger and Crew Lists, 1914-1966). Moussa Shemtob is also associated with Richard via general searches.

My conclusion is that Charlotte L Shemtob was his mother, Moussa was his father. I haven't been able to locate any siblings for him yet. Unconfirmed, but I THINK that Charlotte might have had a sibling, that might've had children. So those would be Richard's cousins?

There is also unclaimed property for Charlotte and Moussa. So lumped with the unclaimed property for Richard and Carol, this could be a substantial amount.

If you look at the yearbook photo I posted upthread, it says Richard lived at 87 Barrow St. in 1957.

According to Ancestry, there are two Richard Shemtobs of similar age in New York, one born 17 Jul 1940, and one born 1 Sep 1939. We have to be careful not to mix them up. One could have been wealthy and the other not. The one born in 1940 is listed in Standard & Poor's Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives, so he was likely wealthy.

I'm hoping someone better at organizing this data can pull from all we are finding and decipher it.
IF Charlotte (maiden name Laker) Shemtob (DOB 5/12/1913) is the parent of the Richard Shemtob that we think this is....?.....
Then her possible parent's are William Laker and Else (maiden name Bertram) Laker. Now this is where it gets extra confusing. The only family I can find similar to that is William and Else Laker who had James Laker son in 1911, and daughter Ellen Laker in 1913. I THINK, maybe maybe, "Ellen" Laker later went by Charlotte Laker? If that's true, then James' children would be Richard's cousins and therefore, the next of kin.
But....I'm just not sure. I'm hoping someone else takes this info and does some magic with it.
