Properties at 521 Park Avenue where they lived at one point are very expensive. It appears today some are over $8 million. If Richard was still alive when his wife died, how did she end up on hart Island? Wouldn't that mean that she was unclaimed?
I was thinking the same thing and the 2660 Fredrick Douglas ave apartment building where he lived was a NYCHA building. Did they lose everything? But they have unclaimed property?!

On 6/29/1982, Richard Shemtob became the registered agent for non-profit "521 Tenants Assn., Inc" located at 521 Park Ave, NY. File # 779241.
I found a quote from a property site that said "The building was converted to a condominium in 1987." regarding the 521 Park Ave building.

super quick: on the NamUs file, is there a morgue photograph? I was going to click the link to try and investigate but right now its 9:05 PM and I don't want to spook myself. (and if there is please don't send it here)

Yeah. There’s a bit of blood around his mouth but that’s it.

Hello all, very interesting work you are doing. I happened on this site accidentally, having searched for « Richard Shemtob » someone I knew some 40 years ago, and I’m sorry to hear that he died seemingly alone.

I read through the thread and you are all on track. Here’s what I know –
I knew Richard Shemtob from 1975/76 until the mid 80s. He did indeed live at 521 Park Ave NYC with his mother and father (Charlotte and Moussa) and Carol whom he presented as his wife, but maybe a conjoint and not married. His father was Iraqi, mother American. He owned Robert Heller Associates, then an executive search firm in Greenwich CT, and bought one of NYU’s data processing operations in the 70s and shut it down in the early 80s. I left NYC and lost track of him in the mid 80s, and I have no knowledge of him before or after the time I described.

It looks he was fairly wealthy at some point in his life. I wonder what happened that he had to pass away like a homeless person, even though he was not homeless. Sad story. Did he have children?
Also his wife was buried in a paupers grave at Hart Island. Something must have spiraled downwards dramatically. I feel very sorry. I hope someone claims him.

Thank you so much for the confirmations!
