Me too Sleuthy (20 minutes away). Trying to reach my friend who is a few blocks away from where he went missing from - wondering if he might be in preschool with her 4 year old. Nothing in my paper here yet.

One again, previous abuse and a child goes missing.

I'm wondering how long this boyfriend/stepfather (whatever) was alone with Marc.
How long was he watching him?
If he says Marc went missing around 1:00 pm, who knows really.
I hope the search warrant gives more clues and Marc is found safe soon.

But, my hinky meter is exploding right now.
Previous burns on hands does not sound good at all.

Please watch over Marc Lord.

NNo matter what, even if the boy is found safe, child endanerment sounds like a good choice against a "caregiver, boyfriend, step father."

I would think the Moms statement would be very telling, "He loves Marc." Maybe she is afraid of him and what he is capable of also. I wonder how old the older child was when he was injured, by falling, being dropped, hard enough to suffer from brain damage? And Mom, why did you let him not only stay, but take care of your child after that?

I am also concerned about burns bad enough that they disfigured the BACKS of his hands!

There was no witnessed abduction or vehicle description.

Some missing children blogs are saying 'foul play suspected.'

From listening to the mother's interview, I suspect foul play too. I'm not saying she had anything to do with it, but it seems like maybe she may think boyfriend may have.
JMO - no facts to back that up. Just my feeling right now.

Newburgh is not a very large town.. If indeed Mark did wander off, he couldn't be far! It is right on the Hudson River though.. It's been rather cold at night.. I hope Mark is ok.

This little boy lives about 15-20 minutes from me. While Newburgh is not a large town, the City of Newburgh where he went missing, is fairly large. Also he is missing from one of the worst parts of the city, where there is known gang activity.

Wow. I live about 20 minutes from the area this boy disappeared from and I had no idea! Poor baby. I hope he is found safe and sound.

I have a sinking feeling though that this is yet another story that will have a very unhappy ending.

MOthers Boyfriend Charged!

I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I didn't see a post on this little boy, but just heard it on the news.


Authorities say 4-year-old Mark Bookal was last seen at home by a caretaker around 1 p.m.

A short time later, the front door was found open and the child has not been seen since.

Police say the child's stepfather was watching him today, and the boy's mother speculated that he tried to walk to a neighbor's house, but never arrived. An Amber Alert was not issued because there was no sign of forced entry.

Police obtained a search warrant and searched the child's house. It is unclear why a search warrant was needed, but a police source tells Eyewitness News that the boy's parents are cooperating with the investigation. The mother says the stepfather loves Mark and doesn't know what could have happened.

Geez, that didn't take long. I left WS for a bit to get some work done and they've charged this guy already.

Isn't it weird/interesting that they charged this guy with endangerment already? Obviously, I'm glad they did but I can think of any number of cases right off the top of my head where LE didn't rush to do that immediately. I wonder what gives?

Have you heard anything about search and rescue teams? While this is not the safest part of the city to be searching, the little boy deserves a full search so I am willing to go search tonight after work.

Also wanted to say that TnM is absolutely right about this boy disappearing from a bad neighborhood. The City of Newburgh can be quite dangerous depending on the street.

I'm from the other side, TnM. You're more local than I am. I'm north of you.

And no, haven't heard anything about any search/rescue missions yet.
