Roses and tears for 4-year-old Marc Bookal

Yul Bookal bowed his head, bit his lip and apologized to his son.
“Marc, I'm so sorry you didn't get your speed racer you wanted for Christmas.”
He began weeping under his dark sunglasses. He sniffled and cried so hard that he squealed with each breath.
“I wanna let you know I'm never gonna forget you.”
The sorrow grew too heavy. Yul Bookal collapsed on his 4-year-old son's casket. He pressed his face against the shiny, pearl-white wood and continued.

Slain boy's mom admits neglectJudge allows her to keep kids conditionally

Published: 2:00 AM - 06/16/10
GOSHEN — Christina Bookal admitted to a judge she should never have left her children in the care of her boyfriend, Cory Byrd.

Bookal's 4-year-old son, Marc Bookal, disappeared in December while Byrd was supposed to be looking after him. Police found Marc's lifeless body three months later, hidden in a book bag under a pile of brush down the hill from his home. Prosecutors and police have described Byrd as a "person of interest" in Marc's killing.

On Tuesday, Christina Bookal appeared in front of Family Court Judge Debra Kiedaisch to answer charges of neglect in regard to Marc and her other three children.

Christina Bookal sat next to her attorney, Geoffrey Chanin, and answered a quiet "Yes" when Kiedaisch asked whether she wanted to make any admissions. She admitted she left her children alone with Byrd even though she knew he had a violent history, including a conviction of reckless endangerment for hurting her oldest son in 1998. Byrd was also convicted of viciously beating and slashing the face of an 18-year-old in 2002

imo.. she should have her remaining children taken away. IMO.. she has already shown some of the worst possible judgment in regards to her childrens' safety. Which has resulted in what could be the worst possible outcome. She allowed him back into the house after CB had already beat another one her children half to death!

I understand that women do stupid things for love, but she had NO concern for her children's safety when she left them alone with CB. Then she kept saying how everyone needed to stop focusing on CB and find Marc... it's sad. But I guess it is true... you can't fix stupid.

imo and all that

Murder suspect's mom offers new point of view
She also says that he did not intentionally hurt his own son back in 1998.
The boy, then 14 months old, had broken bones, internal organ damage, a skull fracture and brain bleeding. Byrd claimed the child was sick, that he gave him a Jolly Rancher, that the boy choked and he squeezed him to dislodge the candy. Byrd pleaded guilty in that case to felony reckless endangerment and went to prison.
The doctors said that some of the injuries were older, Lewis said. She says her son pleaded guilty to protect Christina Bookal from being sent to jail.

Let's get this little boy back up on a page where we can see justice in action for him.

Marc Bookal was murdered with a terrible force on Dec 14, 2009.
Today, opening arguments were heard in the murder trial of Cory Byrd.

The only news outlets I can find who are covering this case, YNN and Record Online are doing a very good and thorough job.

I have saved every article I could find. The case archive is excellent.
Pictures of the trial, article, videos will be added when there is news.

Please take a look:

This thread might be pretty dead.... but I will ask anyways...
I need help.
Question: Does New York's DOC post inmate pictures on their website, or no?

I am trying to find a pic of the guy who will testify against Cory Byrd, his former cellmate Bruce Rivers.

Bruce Rivers has been intimidated with threats and is afraid to testify because of the threats about harming his family.

Today will be interesting to see if he does testify. He is the "star witness" according to the YNN reporter.
