NY - Mark David Chapman & the murder of John Lennon, 1980

I'm a "Strawberry Fields Forever" guy, but great choice of "Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite!", a truly underrated but overwhelmingly great Lennon contribution. That song, with its organ swells and its Pablo Fanques fair ("what a scene"), always reminded me of Halloween, and inevitably made it onto Halloween mix-tapes I would put together.

I'm not a fan of aftermarket videos made by people who put them up on Youtube but that's a great video.

Yep, I rarely seek out any Beatles videos (besides "Hard Day's Night," "Help," "Yellow Submarine," and "Magical Mystery Tour," of course!), but stumbled upon that one not long ago. From the opening snippet with John, Sean, and Yoko onward, it is amazing.

That last little bit ("Is he dead? / "Sit you down, father. Rest you.") is from King Lear, btw.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Others have their opinions but, for my money this is the very first heavy metal song.

30 years already, gee how time flies.
It seems like it wasn't that long ago.
Showing my age, huh?

I was always more into the Stones and other harder blues-oriented rock. Never liked the Beatles or Lennon much at all...

I remember getting up before school and I'd go to the front door and get the paper. When I pulled it up and saw the headline I was stunned. It must have been 20 degrees outside but I stood there with the door open reading the article to make sure the headline was accurate.

Hee, that's a cute bear.

I don't deny Lennon's good. He's just not to my taste, is all, and never was.

My favorite Lennon songs are ......

Oh My Love
God

Oh I'm crying now as I cried then.

Imagine, a work of art.

I have many favorite Lennon songs but I'm so broken up just seeing his
picture and thinking about him.

Thanks for the thread.
At least I have access to all rare Beatles music/ and Lennon's work through my brother who is a collector.

One of my favorites.

A great song. When I grew up, you loved the Beatles or you
moved out. John was always my favorite...

I just noticed this thread so I'm late but Fox News' Bill Hemmer had a special Friday night, Dec. 3, about Lennon's assassination. Here's an article: http://liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/12/03/imagine-if-lennon-were-alive-today/

There's no denying Lennon was a musical genius. I miss him. I would have loved to hear what he would have been creating these past 30 years.

Yoko Ono took so much heat back in the 70's but I admire her. The way she has honored and remembered John and protected the integrity of his work is incredible IMO. I love a lot of his solo career music during which she had a big influence on his life, such as:
