Is it even possible for him to be ID'd now? Namus doesn't have anything on him, no DNA, no fingerprints, nothing. The contacts listed are blank too which makes it seems like no one is working on it, the only contact listed is the regional case manager...

I dunno I'm still new to the whole ID of UIDs but..., that's kind of hard to do when you don't have anything to work with isn't it?

Hi...the Namus file is still up. They would have taken it down if he was identified. You then get a page where they say this page is not available. The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

Namus is not showing any identifiers/dentals and the like anymore to the general public. A big obstacle IMO.

:oops: You're right, for some reason it wasn't coming up for me yesterday (after the post) and I had forgotten about the identifier part from the update, that gets really confusing since I'm used to seeing it. Thanks for the reminder and the update though, glad the page is still up too.

You're right, if there's really nothing in the way of identifiers, it could be difficult or impossible to find his name. But we don't really know any more what identifiers they have; that information is no longer public. And they can sometimes use photos of the person's smile (if the teeth are unique) or matching tattoos, etc.

It seems like NYC cases don't tend to be worked on much. LE there is pretty overloaded and if something's not solved right away, it sadly tends to disappear under the urgency of the new cases.

Great work on clearing up that tattoo!! However I doubt that it is his birthday. Having birthday tattoos is very popular but it is usually for a child. Oct. 3 and the libra definitely match up. People sometimes call their children their "moon and stars". Other dates people usually have tattooed are wedding or anniversary dates. This man at one time might have been a loving father, boyfriend, husband etc but then fell into addiction... Who knows, this is all just speculation on our part and the truth will only be seen when this man is identified.
I think to be able to find his identity, we need to know more about his death. How he died, any injuries (other than as a result of the fire) etc.
You guys have done such an amazing job so far, you are all angels in my eyes!

Anyone here got a website or page that gives exposure to interesting UID cases? @Al Ka? Others?

Somebody asked about identifiers.....
The victim was found partially or entirely burnt in a cardbox box, I'm guessing partially because otherwise there would be no box.

Ten to one his skin on his fingers was burned so they could not take fingerprints.

If he was homeless, as seems to be the case, he might have missing teeth or no teeth. Dental are for comparison only, with no ID they are useless.

Best case scenario is somebody at a shelter reported him missing. Or family reported him missing.

Homeless people tend to fall through the cracks, especially if they had no family or friends.

I agree the tattoo date could be a child's dob. Without that child looking, the probability of identifying him is not good.

Here is another missing person born on October 3. Description of blond hair is kind of strange looking at the mugshot. Don't know if he could be this John Doe.
Story and stats don't ad up nicely.

That was a good find .. did you ever submit it?
Hi there my NY web-sleuths friend. I can see you were busy with the NY cases. No, I believe I didn't. I have to go back through the thread now to reread the things we said :)
