That's a different incident from last year.

Thanks for that. It was linked by NYDN with today's date on twitter. I bet that is where people are getting it was an elderly person.

MSNBC reporting 26 year old driver in custody. Has a history of drunk driving. Thought to be an accident...

If a person has a history of drunk driving and does this while drunk again, it's no accident. It's murder.

I know what is meant by the media statements. They're trying to say this wasn't intentional but when someone pleads or is found guilty of DWI, the judge admonishes them that if they do it again and someone is killed, they will be charged with murder.

In this day and age with Uber and Lyft so easy to access, there is no excuse. None. Especially a person who has been charged previously.

This is why repeat offenders are guilty of a serious crime- they're not just hapless goofs who like to have a beer. A person who actually gets arrested and convicted and has to go through the alcohol classes, AA, has to pay legal fees and court fines which are typically around $10,000, and still gets behind the wheel after that, they are narcissists or sociopaths who don't care about consequences. Because even addicts have the ability to decide never to get behind the wheel. Call a damn cab!

There was chaos in the aftermath of the crash, with people running and screaming. The driver got out of the car, which had steam pouring from it, and started running before being tackled by a traffic officer and members of the public.

"He's just mowing down people. He didn't stop. He just kept going," Asa Lowe, a witness. "He got out of the car and he just started running until people tackled him down. Citizens just reacted."

Annie Donahey told the New York Times: "It was going at a fast rate of speed and to me it looked it was trying to hit as many people as possible.

"People were trying to jump out of the way."

It makes my blood boil. Did ya'all see the photos of him on the heavy after the "accident"? He mows down a few dozen innocent people, killing at least one, and he jumps around in the street in a rage like someone hit him!

My hubby was there yesterday. Got home late last night, and am I ever grateful.

The pictures of him getting out of the car leave me feeling he did this on purpose. He looked so full of rage.

Thank you dotr for showing us who this dear and precious young woman was.

The article is heartbreaking as it is evident that Alyssa has already impacted others' lives in a great and positive way.

I am bewildered and will never understand this behavior.

So difficult to think how this happened in front of her 13 year-old sister. Devastating.

Sending prayers of strength and comfort to her family, boyfriend and friends.

Praying for all of the victims and their families.
