NY - Parents May Face Jail Over Kid's Backyard Noise

  • #121
I agree that since the parents have been talked too and not responded in some definite fashion, that's a poor (and very un-neighborly) decision on their part. Kids can have a lot of fun and learn boundaries and respect at the same time. The two are not mutually exclusive. The parents could have used this issue to teach this lesson to their kids.

Fun for the kids is screaming in the pool. Fun for the neighbors is having some peace in their back yards. So both sets of property owners have needs and should come to a fair commonground regarding "reasonable".
I agree completely and the bolded statement in particular.
My kids (and ALL their friends)had as much fun as they could stand in the backyard growing up. But the minute they encroached on someone elses peace they had to pipe down or shut it down.
I also agree on how sound can carry. This whole thing is adding up against the parents IMO.

I agree - in the beginning when I read that the next door neighbors had no complaints, I kinda sided with the family...I mean who deosn;t love hearing kids play?!

But as more details have been revealed, I'm with the 6 neighbors on this one. The parents missed a huge opportunity....hope the kids get some lessons in good citizenship from someone else or they're going to have hard lives.

I have to agree, we played outside all of the time when I was a child, but my parents were very strict about us not being loud after 6:00 p.m.ish. And not being noisy before 10:00a.m.. Or mowing lawns during the early morning or late evening,or calling people before 10:00 A.M. or after 10:00 p.m. You can have fun,you just have to respect other people's bounderies.
