ventre-for-web.png

A 77-year-old Brooklyn woman was reported missing Tuesday night after her son, 46, set himself on fire and took his own life, according to police.
  • Emergency officials responded to the scene at Bedford Ave and Ave Y in Sheepshead Bay at about 5:35 a.m. Tues, where they found the man engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished and the man was pronounced dead. His death was ruled a suicide. He had doused himself in an accelerant.
  • His mother, Patricia “Pattie” Ventre, 77, was reported missing; police said it was unknown if there was any criminality related to her disappearance.
  • Later Tuesday night, a Silver Alert was issued for Ventre. She was last seen near Bedford Avenue and East 24th Street on Feb. 26.
  • She is 5'1" tall, weighs 120 pounds and has blonde hair and brown eyes.
  • Sources said officers had just done a wellness check on Ventre Monday after close friends called police worried about her wellbeing. When police arrived, her son told them she had gone on a trip.
  • Friends said they hadn’t heard from her since before Valentine’s Day.
  • Sources said there was blood found in the basement of the home, but it’s unclear whose it is.

Very concerning circumstances, IMHO. Last seen 2-26, and no one has heard from her since before Valentine's Day. :(

Brooklyn man dies after setting himself on fire, cops searching for man’s missing mother: officials

The mom founded a dancing dog business, the World Canine Freestyle Organization, neighbors said.

“She was a dog trainer, and she was very successful with that. She had three dogs that she had trained to dance,” Igor said. “She was a good lady. She took care of her (own) elderly mother until she died.”

What fresh hell is this???? Prayers Pattie will be found safe and soon.

Here’s a video about her and her Dog Dancing career. She looks like an awesome woman. It seems like she would have dogs—I wonder if they are fine?

Her last line in the video: “I want to dance with my dogs until I die.” :( I sure hope she’s ok somewhere...

Man believed to have set himself on fire in backyard: NYPD (nypost.com)
[...]

“She’s been missing like two to three weeks,” the neighbor said. “I spoke to her friend that tried to call her three weeks ago and couldn’t get a hold of her. That’s when she disappeared.”

[...]

On Tuesday, Budweiser Ice tall boys, as well as an empty bottle of wine, were strewn along the home’s front lawn next to the garbage cans.

Investigators examined a trail of drops of blood along the front walkway, around the garbage can.

Police also found a lot of blood in the home, police sources said.

[...]

The neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, described her son as “cuckoo.”

“Everyday, he walks around here talking to himself,” he said. “He walks the dogs then he walks around talking to himself.”

VG, 59, who also lives on the block, said the mom was “always yelling, screaming” at her son.

[...]

Another neighbor, RG, 52, a marketing director who knows the family, said the family had been living at the home for at least 40 years. She described the man as schizophrenic.

“He definitely has issues,” RG said. “The police have come before.”

[...]

“She always decorates for every season,” the neighbor said. “Right now she should have her St. Patrick’s Day decorations up, but she still has Christmas up. She would never do that. She was always on top of it. But because of COVID, I wasn’t going over there. I guess I just never noticed.”

"On Thursday afternoon, police continued their search inside 77-year-old Ventre’s home. Blood was found throughout the house and there was evidence of possible decomposition in one closet, a law enforcement source said."

"In 2006, he was arrested by the Secret Service for trespassing at a temporary residence for then-President Bush and his staff near Waco, Texas, court records show."

"Meier said the last time she spoke with Ventre, about three weeks ago, the worried mom expressed concern about her son. “He wasn’t doing well,” Meier said. “I suggested she 302 him (have him taken for a mental health evaluation). She said she’s not doing that."

" “She said the last time he was taken to an institution, they mistreated him. She said he would never harm her.” "

Even though I think we all suspected this wasn’t going to end well, hearing the details of the blood and possible decomp found in the house breaks my heart. I can only pray that Pattie can be found and laid to rest.

So sad that she knew her son was at what I’ll refer to as a breaking point but wouldn’t force him to get psychiatric care...her concern for him being “mistreated” probably led to her demise at his hands.

Lifting up prayers.

Speculation and MOO.

This is reminiscent of Gary and Laura Johnson in MI. They tried from the time their son was age 4 to get help for him and at 27 years old, he murdered them.

This poor woman. Just so devastating to think what she may have gone through. :( MOO

I know, PommyMommy, my first thoughts were of Gary and Laura. I’m not a mother, so I come at this from a different mindset, but I have personal experience with my own mother who helped my sister “escape” from medically mandated rehab for alcoholism because “they were mean to her there.” My sister died at a young age from alcoholism... our mother refused to even admit my sister had a problem with alcohol, even though she had to be airlifted to a major hospital 6 hours away and was told she wouldn’t survive the flight... she did, but died years later. It was the only time we were able to get her into treatment, and was probably her only chance.

Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.

My heart breaks for Pattie and her family. Praying without ceasing

Oh thank you so much Pommy! It’s ok. It’s been awhile, and she was 16 years older than me. Honestly I can’t believe she lived as long as she did. But I knew it was over when our mother went into total denial. I was 22 when she escaped from treatment and I knew it was inevitable.

I just could never understand how our mother couldn’t logically see that she HAD to be there. But like I said, I’m not a mom so maybe I can’t understand.

Sorry for off topic.

I was just thinking. It’s mentioned that she had 3 dog but then some articles mentioned that the neighbor had 2 of her dogs. I wonder what happened to the third?
Does anyone know if there has ever been a follow up on if the blood found in the house and by the garbage Can was Patty’s?

If the son did indeed kill her.. he could if dumped her in the water. If he had a car you can take the belt parkway straight to North Channel Bridge…(it’s been renamed Joseph Addabbo Bridge. if she was dumped in March it would of been too cold and then later when it got warmer the body could of floated and gotten stuck on things. Just a thought.

Below is a map and you can see how far sheepshead bay is from where the skeletal remains were found.
