Found Deceased NY - Peter Beard, 82, (ex husband of Cheryl Tiegs) Montauk, 31 March 2020

  • #41
I agree, I'm baffled why a celebrity ex-model who divorced him 35 years ago would be an expert on his current state of mind, age 82 with dementia.

Also, the Russian prostitute/hospital incident allegedly occurred in 2013, it may well have been exacerbated by early dementia. The story appears to have been revealed by Peter Beard's attorney in the context of a lawsuit, as a defence that Beard wasn't in his right mind at the time and so couldn't have lawfully sold some of his works at a bargain price.

The whole story is complicated and sad, full of emotional pain and mental illnesses, yet certain elements in the press try to turn it into some kind of zany comedy.
Well said. Lets hope he is found soon, and wouldn't it be nice if he were on an adventure? Unlikely, but we can always hope.

Amateur opinion and speculation

Now we await a COD

There have been many cases of people with dementia wandering away from wherever they live, and dying from hypothermia. Disorientation sets in, and what should be a simple return trip becomes deadly. Also, some with dementia apparently lack caution and inhibitions about entering bodies of water.

My father, who passed away last year, lived in a locked memory care facility, with code actuated locks. These are now common in memory care facilities; where I live in South Florida, several memory care facilities faced fines and lawsuits a few years ago when residents were able to wander out and died. So, people with dementia can die as a result of their wandering. Lack of inhibitions, memory loss of accumulated knowledge - these things lead to otherwise inexplicable disasters.

Thanks for the update.

I'm glad for his loved ones that he was found on land. I'd been afraid he went into the ocean and might never have been found. RIP, Mr. Beard.

RIP Peter Beard, you lived a hundred lifetimes.

Interesting timing on this, with his book just coming out. Methinks perhaps someone left the barn door open intentionally.

When you're old, trust your kids not your (final) wife

How sad, he was a very talented man. The poor guy probably suffered quite a while, lost, afraid, no water or food. Such an awful way to die.

There are devices and alarms you can purchase for people with dementia. There are special locks and alarm systems you can install in your home to alert you if they try to open a door. Why didn't his wife take any of these measures?

I'm wondering the same thing. The current wife has an interesting background. Good advice, BTW.

I'm sure he chose to die this way, like a man. Peter Beard loved to be lost and he wasn't afraid of anything. Still, that doesn't absolve his wife of any responsibility. I anticipate significant dispute over his estate

Thinking the COD is going to be something nefarious but guess we will see. MOO

I think the conspiracy theories here are a bit far fetched... Peter had dementia and wandered off IMO. I used to work at a nursing home where we had to really be on the look out for this sort of thing.

I hope he didn't suffer too much. RIP

It doesn't take a conspiracy to let an old man die. In fact, it takes some amount of love just to keep them alive.

Just to be clear, I was never implying a conspiracy, lol. I do however believe that someone close to the victim could be responsible for his disappearance/death. Not beyond reason nor impossible. MOO IMO

Yes, I hope his loved ones find some comfort in knowing what became of him. Still, it's a sad ending to a colorful life. RIP Peter Beard.
