(I loved your lurkin cat pic earlier....this is serious business though..I need a flippin transcript noooowwwwww! Heehee)

This will get you started, but still looking for a transcript, Magz.

http://wemu.org/post/federal-terrorism-charges-filed-against-manhattan-subway-bombing-suspect
has sound bites

What stands out was that he was radicalized in 2014, and you know Spring of 2015 may have been a hot time for Daesh to spread outside it's now geographically defunct caliphate. He travelled but apparently didn't get trained in bomb making. He tells a story of recently becoming active.

I'm sure LE is all over are all over this.

Really? How many people were killed yesterday by guns? But a man with a pipe bomb manages to kill no one and there is a big uproar.

Seems like a viable reason to be, uh, concerned. The subject at hand (not guns, that's our other pet thread lol).

We will never forget all the lives lost on 9/11.

A wound that will never heal. For thousands. So please be careful, Miss Jennifer.

He tried to set off a bomb in the busiest transit station in the country at rush hour. That's newsworthy, imo.

Horror is realest to those going through it. Any moral equivalence those untouched by it attribute to any given act of hateful mass casualty intended violence, to specifically cause terror to masses, would say more to me about their predicament than the violence in question.

Thinking of Foxfire, so, though I honor the space to say things, and consider it a natural urge to find moral equivalence, it is often fraught and unwise. I find it a useless avenue to pursue. I'm not sure if that makes sense... but I agree with you, Magz.

Authorities in Bangladesh say Manhattan bombing suspect was ‘self-radicalized’
WashPost

Hours before Akayed Ullah stepped into a busy Manhattan subway passage, a homemade pipe bomb strapped to his body with Velcro, his wife called him from here to wake him up. The telephone conversation Monday was brief and ordinary — Jannatul Ferdous did not detect any signs that her husband was upset or angry, nor did he say anything memorable. She told him to go to work and hung up.
...
In a news conference here Wednesday, counterterrorism chief Monirul Islam said that Ullah’s attempted attack was inspired by the writings and online sermons of a Bangladeshi cleric named Jasimuddin Rahmani, the spiritual leader of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a banned Bangladeshi terrorist organization. Rahmani is serving a five-year prison term after his conviction on charges of inciting the murder of a Bangladeshi blogger.
...
Islam said that Ferdous and her family had, under questioning, suggested that link — implying that they did have some inkling of his radicalization.
...
Rahmani, of the ABT, is especially influential among Bangladeshi émigrés, according to Abdur Rob Khan, a professor of political science at North South University in Dhaka.
...
“They probably attract people in international situations in the Middle East or with some kind of antagonism to the West.”

Camp Visit
Dhaka Trib
12/14/17 1:21 pm

in Cox’s Bazar..., his family have revealed.
Akayed’s mother-in-law,... told the Dhaka Tribune that... travelled to the Kutupalong refugee camp in Ukhiya to deliver aid to the displaced minority, though she could not recall the exact date.
...
“Akayed boarded a Cox’s Bazar-bound bus at night and then informed us about it through a video call,” Mahfuja said during an interview at her Hazaribagh residence on Wednesday.
...
Officials of the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of police confirmed Akayed’s visit to Kutupalong camp, but said they were still to ascertain if he was accompanied by anyone else.
...
Julfikar said Akayed visited Bangladesh three times after marrying his daughter, Jannatul Ferdous Jui, in January 2016.
...
“He visited his maternal grandmother at Sandwip in Chittagong during his last visit. He also visited his uncle-in-law’s house in Uttara at that time, when we accompanied him.”
...
During the interviews his wife, Jui, stood behind curtains to veil her face. Fighting through an illness, she told the assembled media that her husband was “innocent” and sought help from the media and Bangladesh government to ensure justice in the matter.
...
Both Jui and her younger brother Joy told the Dhaka Tribune correspondent that Akayed had asked them to perform namaz five times a day, which is a requirement for every practising Muslim.
...
“When my sister had a talk with my brother-in-law on Monday morning [December 11], she did not notice any unusual behaviour,” Joy said.

Innocent? Either someone is lying to her, she's ok with it or she's mentally challenged.

On Trip to Bangladesh, Subway Bomb Suspect Reached Out to Refugees
By Jeffery Gettleman, The New York Times

Dec 18 '17

"...
Was Mr. Ullah following Al Qaeda, who had just urged Muslims to deliver medicine — and weapons —
[to the refugee camps]
...
Or was he following his own heart, reflecting some sort of inner struggle as he headed toward his first known act of violence and self-destruction?
...
extensive interviews with more than a dozen friends, relatives and acquaintances, .... still leave a hole as to why ... did this.
...
impulsive, angry, riveted to militant social media and outraged by injustices inflicted on Muslims.

Both American and Bangladeshi investigators say ... was not a jihadist export from Bangladesh, but was radicalized after he arrived in New York in 2011. Before that, he did not seem interested in militant groups.
...
Analysts say it is much easier for young Bangladeshis to be buffeted by jihadist propaganda once they are in the West.
...
“You guys in the West are naïve,” Mr. Abdur Rashid said. “You give more space for the preachers, the hate speech. We don’t tolerate it.”

...[as a kid]
his mother made the rounds in Hazaribagh, knocking on doors and asking neighbors to go with them to the mosque to pray. They were members of Tabligh Jamaat, a peaceful Muslim outreach group.

...[friends noticed at his wedding]
it was as if he was meeting a different person. ... had grown a big beard, he was austere and he broke off from the festivities and from catching up with old friends to pray by himself.
...
[Sept visit]
get all the paperwork in order for his wife and 6-month-old son to immigrate.... The three were close despite the distance; his family said he would call his wife five to 10 times a day.
...
“Definitely someone helped him around those camps,” Mr. Rafique said. “You need to find out who.”

An alleged ISIS-inspired former cabby will stand trial starting Monday for a plot to blow up a tunnel near the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Despite evidence that includes surveillance video that authorities say shows the moment Akayed Ullah set off the device last December in the crowded tunnel leading to the subway, he has declined plea-deal offers and decided to take his chances at trial.

Bangladeshi immigrant convicted in NYC subway bombing

11/6/2018

"NEW YORK (AP) — A Bangladeshi immigrant was convicted Tuesday of setting off a pipe bomb in New York City’s busiest subway station, disputing in court that he was supporting the Islamic State group and saying he was instead motivated by anger at President Donald Trump....

...Just after jurors walked out, Ullah announced he had something to say and repeatedly insisted he did not act on the Islamic State group’s behalf.

“I was angry with Donald Trump because he says he will bomb the Middle East and then he will protect his nation. So I said: ‘Donald Trump, you cannot do like this.’ Nobody likes bombing, your honor.”

Judge Richard J. Sullivan told him: “Right now is not the time for a statement.”

“Your honor, you heard what the government is trying to do. They are trying to put me in the group, which I don’t support, your honor,” Ullah told Sullivan.

“Mr. Ullah, now is not the time for this,” said the judge, who set sentencing for April 5. Ullah faces a mandatory 30-year prison sentence and could be sent to prison for life...."
