Yes, I watched the show too. Wasn't it horrible when he's slapping the heck out of her and the stepmother is sitting on the couch mimicking with her left and right hooks?? The woman is a head case.

I think she was simply jealous of the daughter. Typical really, she was worried he loved the daughter more. She was always tattling on the step daughter and I think she actually drove the father to do it. He exploded. I don't understand why he was so worried about losing his wife??

Since they can't file charges now because of the Statute of Limitations I think the best thing that came out of this was that the father and mother have now been exposed to North America.
I think that is what struck me as well. That woman definately seemed to be enjoying the situation. I was truly sickened.

I missed this show, but I have a question. Are you saying all this went on while the family KNEW they were being filmed?

Too late? How can it be too late?

The poor girl - it doesn't matter if it was only once - it was wrong!

ABC should have done something about it right then and there. It bothers me that they are now trying to say that they had no responsibility to do that yet when they showed that part, they also showed it again, telling us to focus on the mother who was shadow boxing on the other couch.

Details they did the video in 2003 or something and then shelved it for a couple of years. Now the time for filing a charge of that nature has expired.

Yes the family knew they were being filmed, they had the option of turning off the camera any time they wished, they did not turn it off. They stated this on the show just prior to showing the abuse. I seen the whole show and it was most definitly abuse. When the daughter said that the parents lied... the father jumped on her straddling her lap as she set on the sofa and started punching her in the head and ribs. The daughter was right they did lie.

Amraan: Being that Prime TIme stood by and taped the segment and did nothing I wonder how much of it was just for show?
More along the lines of make believe TV news (IE: Jerry Springer) rather then a real news segment?
It was my impression that this is why Primetime went back on TV with a followup to the show... because they showed the abuse clip over and over and over. They used it to entice the audience to watch the show.

And yes, what the father did that time was abusive... but the way he allowed his wife to verbally abuse the daughter day after dreary day was much worse, IMO. He had the backbone of a caterpillar. And I personally would like the chance to b-tch slap the stepmother into a parallel universe. What a wretch of a person. She was probably one of the more insecure people I've ever had the displeasure of watching... a true lowlife 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. I, too, hope the girl will rise above this but the prognosis is not good. She's pretty much destined to find a man that will abuse her because that's what she's learned... to put up with abuse and blame herself for it. It's all very sad.

I gasped, flinched and cried when the dad beat her and especially appauled at how the stupid step mom sat by and did "like a thats it punch her fighting gestures motions with her hands" while the dad beat her with open hand and fist! So immature and ignorant this step mother is, she is so jealous of that child.

Yes, I love my parents too , dearly, and i would stand up for my dad to anyone,if anyone had cared to report the verbal or physical abuse in my home growing up-- so i can relate to the girl taking up for her dad, but she need to know he has issues--- and not a good father.

Also, what is the deal with this father putting that WOMAN on such a pedastal ,i know he says he doesnt want another failed marriage, but OMG- i cant see what he sees in her , her attitude is so ugly, Which is why i came to the conclusion the daughter has more sense than either the dad or step mom.

Im glad her grandparents are there for her, and I hope her dad gets 'real' and tells his wife to grow up - and work on his relationship with his daughter...

p.s. it really bothered me as well he gave the wife , the daughters grandmothers ring at the 15 yr old daughter birthday dinner-- its like he feared his wife would get mad or feel left out because his daughter was getting too much attention on her birthday.

I think primetime was wrong as well for not reporting this as abuse before it aired.

I just felt sick to my stomach at how they talk to and treated this girl.

They mentioned that dad was is Iraq during part of the filming. I wonder about the time frame, not that it would excuse anyone. The show was about step-parenting and I think the "mom" thought she would come off smelling like roses. She REALLY needs help. I, too, can't believe "dad" gave his wife his mother's ring on Kyle's birthday. Wasn't it promised to Kyle?

I think Kyle (his daughter) will be OK. She is extremely mature considering what she's been through.

Try the following link--go to the right side of page and under "Recent Show" click on "Stepfamilies in Crisis". Note--you have to listen to a product ad before the video starts.

It was a 'rage' beating..

I, agree ,ljwf22 , although my heart bleeds for this girl , i think she will be fine, she is very mature for a girl her age and with the A.D.D diorder they said she has ( makes me wonder though if "step mom didnt come up with that disgnoisis)-- and i pray it makes her father see her in a new light, and the step mom grow a freakin brain.

I thought it was terrible also when she said she wanted to go live with her real mom and they said, "shes doesnt want you, want us to play the tape back, where she says so?".... Just , mean:snooty:

For those that can't watch it - I guess the best description I can give is that if I ever witnessed my husband do anything CLOSE to what went on, I would hide my children and divorce him immediately.

A one time thing, pushed to the limit, getting counseling, in Iraq, whatever - would not matter. He would be out of the house and I would kill him before he would get back in.
