the news sources believe he has left and that just isn't a story... sad but true.

on the public RM Search group page, there is a post by editor in chief of longisland.com to help them get the word out. Alas, no follow up whatsoever. I wonder why?

That, like so many other parts of this mystery are perplexing to say the least. :banghead:

My guess is that she can't get any straight answers either. If only the family and LE would be forthcoming with information. It's frustrating.

I am from Long Island, and cannot believe the utter lack of news coverage of this case. We have 2 news sources, Newsday (newspaper) and News12 (TV station) and Newsday has never even run 1 article about this case. News12 picked it up briefly but has dropped it like a hot potato. Is the lack of coverage because RM is a man? What if he was a woman, and mother? Would this case get more coverage in the media then? I keep thinking to myself, if I went missing, I hope there would be more media coverage! The media is not helping in this case........

Newsday's coverage of anything is lackluster, to say the least. I don't think they have enough reporters to follow up on things like this.

Remember the Lisa Solomon case? Newsday was all over it while she was missing. That was back when they weren't owned by Cablevision.

Respectfully, the last two sentences contradict each other. If he needed cash to get away the scrap metal sighting is a vital clue.

I think if you follow the money in this case there are a lot of signs that he probably didn't have to sell metal scraps to make extra cash. For example, he just put an addition on his house less than a year ago with an estimated cost of $75,000. http://tohpropertyinfo.huntingtonny...LandManagementSiteHistoryReport.aspx?ID=64105. Using the tax map ID#, go check out his mortgage on the Suffolk County assessor's webpage while you are at it.

Completely agreed Lucy, something is DEF not right with this media coverage. Even yesterday morning, I read Newsday online mobile on my phone, there was a story about how a massive search is under way regarding a homeless woman in Hempstead that has been missing for 3 weeks.
But there has NEVER been a report in Newsday to my knowledge about RM. Most of the other media outlets don't seem to make it a priority. Is this because LE still doesn't believe any foul play is involved? Something is VERY ODD about this, and about MANY MANY things in this case. Especially the lack of information, but that's a whole other subject!

And there was another HUGE addition to the house in 2004, and a rough cost of 75,000 back then.
I assume union Electricians get paid very well, but is it enough to support this house with close to 20k taxes, 2 kids, etc..? Most houses in the neighborhood surronding him are kept nicely, but few are to the extent his is.
Does IM work? <modsnip>

If she is currently a stay-at-home-mom, maybe the scrap was bringing in a few hundred cash a week---it helps, believe me! Scrap metal is very valuable these days, many many people are making decent spending cash with it.

IMO, if they need money they would have refinanced by now.

Thanks, that's the key here. IMHO, no straight answers.
I am suspicious to say the least.

I hope the truth comes out.

It's obvious we do not know what occurs behind closed doors. Maybe he had an addiction of some kind. Someone who is happy just doesn't disappear. <modsnip> The cops still say no criminal activity in this case. So what led up to this? i agree those closest to him must have known something. She did not seem upset in her latest interview on fios. Something is not right here.:banghead:

I have said it before, living beyond their means, debt piling up, equity loan would only create more debt. Union electricians don't make that much, and they have forced furloughs, usually only working 40 weeks a year. Wife booking European vacations, cruises, casino visits. House upgrades, in ground pool, mortgage, taxes, kids. I can see a guy just saying "enough" and walking away.

At least I hope he walked away.

We don't know anything about their finances.

Very true, FrankieP. Unfortunately, we don't know much of anything.

Davis Bacon wages for an electrician in NY/NJ area, which is supposed to be roughly equal to union wage, is about $51.00 per hour. Union electricians may make more in NYC, I'm not sure. At first glance it would appear not enough income to support a household with an annual tax rate of 20K. But good planning and investments could easily remedy that. No real way to tell, I guess, what their financial picture looked like.

I know.. the most frustrating thing for me is the inconsistencies between the information from the people close to the case and the information they are releasing publicly.

IMO, he had his phone and wallet all day until he stopped home after work..

I saw where IM said on the "Robert Mayer Search Group" FB page, "Yes. I have waited long enough. Time to go public".

Was that a recent post on the RM Search Facebook page?
I'm not on there, was just curious if there is going to be more press, maybe a press conference or something? Thoughts?

She posted that 16 hours ago via mobile. Don't know what it exactly means. Thoughts are...."I've been tight lipped and compliant with the requested guidelines of the investigation and it's gotten us nowhere. I want to release as much information to the public as possible. Maybe they can help."

I really hope that's what she meant. She's asking for help but there's only so much people can do with such limited information. Perhaps LE is asking her to be tight lipped? Although if they don't suspect any criminal activity, why ask her to keep quiet. One thought is she has something to hide - nothing illegal or underhanded, but maybe she suspects he's been unfaithful and doesn't want to air "dirty laundry". Or financial issues she doesn't want everyone knowing about.

Clemenza, the way she behaves (choice of words, actions,) whether its from the stress or not, it always appeared to me as if she knew morethan she let on, and that seemed suspicious to me, but that may be a result of LE telling her to keep quiet. Just to be clear, I am not accusing her of anything, there are just MANY questions that she can easily clear up about her husband that could shed light on this crazy disappearance.

If she truly wants to help her husband, she would go public about it all, as personal and possibly embarrasing as it may be. All this misleading and conflicing information (not saying this is done purposely) is only making this situation worse.

Bottom line--He vanished into thin air without a trace--I know it has happened with other people, but how common is that???? (this is excluding missing children, who would be completely defenseless)

The mountain bike is the perfect example.....where the heck did that come from? It appears to not fit at all....JMO....I feel like it was thrown in to deceive..but by whom, and why? Again, just my thoughts.

Even as one poster suggested, perhaps he took it apart to sell if for scrap, I really cant see it being worth much at all.
