I think he went home to get the bike. JMO

I always thought so too....I always thought he took it out of that back seat that was pushed up and he either rode it away from train station or put it in the back of someone elses car/suv ??? or took it with him on the train

Maybe the 300 was to pay her for the bike he took!

  • #324
I thought so also. He rode the bike and someone else the car but they met at the train station and got in a different car.

either that or the bike hasn't been there for awhile and they just never noticed it gone. But I do think he took something out of that back seat

Further searching the garage, Ida found Rob’s cell phone, turned off, in another drawer in the garage. The $300 she’d found previously matches the transaction he made June 14 at Arrow, she says.

“It means to me that he came home,” says Ida. “It means to me that something happened.”

What I excerpted from the article is the strangest part of this case! I just don't get it...

ETA - when she says the phone was off - was it in airplane mode?

No I think bike in the empty trunk or bike in the back sear hence the need to push it forward to get it out.

I think he's in the preserve. IM said he used to ride there sometimes. It was a place he knew. And he also knew his kids would not be the ones to find him.

And we know that IM thinks he might be in there too otherwise why would she search there.

To be nit picky, we're not absolutely positive RM went home for 10 min. I'm pretty sure a red car went close to his home for 10 min. (me personally, I think his car was there, whether he was driving or alone I just can't be certain. But, WTHDIK?). :dunno:
There could be a zillion reasons.
Maybe nothing was abnormal until AFTER he arrived home at 2:40. Possibly things took a major turn for the :notgood: at 2:41. IF RM went home at 2:40, what if anything did he encounter or who? We may never know. This may or may not have been pre-planned. I just keep :fence:
I have much sympathy for his children as a new school year begins + pray they have answers soon, whether good, bad or ugly.
JMO cuz who else's opinion would I be blathering on all this time about?!

Ok, I keep running into a glitch, can anyone help me please?! Sometimes when I "quote" as I'm typing I want to add a smiley or whatnot. Sometimes when I click "more" to the right under smilies it will pop up a window with all the choices, other times it just scoots to the top of the window but no matter how many blessed times I click it will not bring up the smiley choices. What in the *%##@ am I doing wrong?

It just feels to me like he was on a mission

Talks to IM for 45 min ...fighting???
leaves work early at 12:30
goes to Arrow sells stuff
TURNS OFF HIS PHONE BEFORE he gets home
Arrives home takes the bike maybe other stuff and is outta there in 10 minutes
IM arrives
car found at train station and they easily could have parked it there right after he left home

I think if he went out on his bike this is why he left his phone and wallet and money you do not ride with junk in your pockets.

But why is the car at the train statin?

But why didn't dogs pick up his scent??? unless he rode to preserve and had somebody pick him up there

I haven't found a NamUs flyer that mentions that Robert Mayer is Endangered nor Endangered Missing, Only Missing. Is there another NamUs flyer floating around?

Was it at one time posted on NamUs that Robert was Endangered and Missing
and it has been changed? Although when there are changes on NamUs , then the update date is shown, and on Robert's NamUs the date entered is June 27, 2013, and I don't see any other dates of any changes....
IMOO.
Well we know he went missing June 14th. Entered June 27th you saw. I swear along the way it included "endangered", but now I'm thinking maybe it was another missing poster or website that included that word. I looked but I don't see it now except on the "CUE" link. :waitasec:

Well he did go home for 10 mins... Why bother if your going to end it all?
Left a note? By the time you read this ill be gone???
Or to grab a bag he had packed and decided to get it when Ida wasn't home.
He needed something from that house I cant see him cming home to just leave his wallet and the money...Why would he care if he was leaving?
300.00 isn't going to help his family any.
To get what you need, the essential item, to "end it all"?
I don't know.
I don't know that "he" went home for 10 mins.
$300 might help his family. It might pay for his son's band gig that wkend. It might cover groceries for a week. It might cover many little things. Where I come from, $300 is not to be flushed down the toilet nor is it equatable to "no help at all". JMO

Well... Clevah, I did include my usual small print and there is for sure more than one hole in this and every theory I can come up with. Like, where are his tools then? How exactly did he do it? Where does the possible addiction come into this?

However... I know nothing about dog scents but once he got on the bike, which I'm thinking was immediately after he took it out of the car, his body is not touching the ground, right?

Maybe our dog experts can help with this one.

First time posting. Thank you to everyone for providing such good reading!

IMO, what if there was an argument in the home (over anything, drug use, $, life, trips to italy, felonies), they continued the argument on the phone while RM was at work-for 45 minutes, a rather long time to be away from the job to talk about shellfish. He hangs up on her (dropped call), she keeps trying to call him back (cell going right to voice mail). He comes home, "someone" else is also home, waiting for him. He says "I'm leaving." She grabs his wallet, phone and money and says you can't leave now. He says, watch me. Then she gets in his car and leaves because then she thinks he can't leave. He gets on his bike and leaves anyway. The car is parked at a train station, because if you don't want your car towed, it's the perfect place. Hence, the seat is moved forward. She jets back home and finds him gone, now she's pissed/upset, maybe genuinely worried=missing persons report.

I know it's a bit of a reach with the car. But IMO, something about this scenario feels right to me. Maybe I have too many crazy girlfriends/wife friends who would have no problem doing this.

Also, wasn't the young girl who said she saw RM on a train from the Warwick area? And RMs family has not posted anything on FB.

Hi Islandgurl, great first post. Love the theory, but lost you on the cars. Are you saying she drove his car to the station? How does she get back home? Who is driving her car that is supposedly seen pulling in the driveway?

I was also wondering about a scent if he left on a bike from the car.

I think it is clear he went home, since the money and phone were there, that is assuming they were not planted. Maybe a gun is missing? Maybe that is why IM wants the preserve searched? But why the car at the station? How far is that from the place she wants searched? Closer, or further, than from the house?

Here's the satellite map of the preserve. See the train station in the right hand corner?

Ok I'm gonna be a real nit picker tonight... Not singling you out VeryCleverGirl, just jumping off your post as I've seen many say the same thing = "45 minutes". I've never seen where it was confirmed as a "45 minute" phone call. I've more often seen it referred to as a "few" minutes.
http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.com...13/08/15/73123
After a couple of minutes, the call dropped. Ida shrugged, and went about her morning busy routine, doing the thousand chores that always need to be done and re-done.
However I best not get started all over again about when that blessed phone was turned off / "went dead". :scared:

Ok so the station is near the preserve? I can see why she would want that searched.

Its JMO but I believe (as I have more faith in canines than humans) IF he drove himself to the train station, got out, unloaded the bike from back seat or trunk, hopped on + peddled off into the sunset :bicycle: then - the dogs would pick up at least a bit of his scent in the parking lot, regardless of how far they could track it, they would hit on it. JMO
I bolded above - this bugs me to no end - WHERE are his tools? Have they been found? A man + his tools are not easily parted. In my little bit of life experience anyway. If he wanted to get rid of everything, ok, but where are they? Dumped? Scrapped? Pawned? Home? Jobsite? They didn't just vanish. Nor did his lunch pail. JMO
