"The next day, Rob’s car was found in the parking lot of the Long Island Railroad at the Deer Park Station. They keys were not in it. The seat was pushed up, as if someone shorter than Rob’s six foot frame had driven it there. The car’s trunk, where he kept his tools and lunch box was empty. Ida says that Rob never would have left his car there. He was too concerned about thefts."

BBM
IIRC was it not stated recently that IM announced at the search that trunk latch was broken?
Also, note..IM called it a "lunch box".

IMHO here

RM driving home is not a fact
RM being in the house may not be a fact
RM "leaving" the scrap yard is not a fact

C'mon any young hungry reporters out there??
I would be all over that yard!

It bothers me that a week went by before RM's co workers mentioned that place.

Im more surprised the workers at the scrap yard didn't come forward and say hey Robert was here yesterday ya da ya da ya da!

  • #643
Im very surprised the neighbors didn't look at their security cams the next day!
that makes no sense to me at all.

well they thought he was missing from work...didn't come home so I'm not so surprised by that. after they found the car at DP they prob assumed he took off from there...prob just checked their cam like always maybe weekly and caught it

But I think the fact is WE WOULD have gone straight to our Sec Cams to see what we could see!!!!

Bolded by me
Agree. Makes me wonder why they didn't say anything sooner. Weren't they questioned early in the investigation? Didn't they question why he didn't show up for work? They must have known about his disappearance. Maybe the job site is unstructured? Workers come and go often? Since RM was a foreman, wouldn't he have been missed? Just some thoughts . . .

I would have thought that news of RM's "gone missing" would be the talk at work on Monday or at least by Tuesday. MMO

.....
...also the time frames fit...except there is a gap from when he left work till he shows up at Arrow
Left work at 12:30 (co-workers said)
Seen on Sec Cam at Arrow 2:15
Red Car (or hovercraft lol) seen at home 2:41-2:51
if you check out the distances and driving times on Bing it fits except we don't where he was after work till he went to Arrow an hour and 45 min ...I think he was doing stuff getting ready to leave

Just checking my recall. I thought that co-workers were reported as saying they saw RM and his car at work that Friday around 12:30. I think it was our speculation that maybe they saw him as he was leaving.

On neighbor's sec cam. Several months back there were a couple break-ins in our neighborhood. And neighbors were checking their cams as soon as they heard - the very next morning. Course neighborhoods are different.

But we don't know when they found out about his disappearance either..so that's a factor....there are people who live in LI that don't know...apparently

I wonder if these neighbors liked them?

Maybe not?

Me too!
didn't they ask these neighbors if they saw him at all that day

I wonder!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it wasn't fathers day and company was NOT coming would he have been reported missing when he was or not till Monday when he didn't arrive to work?

Just a thought!

IIRC, RM helped his neighbors out during Hurricane Sandy. I believe I read it in one of the news articles. I'll see if I can find a link.

Id bet Robert has a work bench and one of thos huge tool thingy chests with a lot of drawers!
I have a large garage and we have cabinets and a unit of drawers for organization of daily sheet we use it has like 8 drawers in it.
I think Robert used these drawers every day Im willing to bet my last dollar his keys were left with that wallet and the money and the phone and the person that drove that GTO either had the spare or took it from the garage as Robert peddled off on his bike.... He was followed! JMO

Are you saying that you believe RM was followed with his own car, while he was on his bike?

I think his car was moved while he was on his bike and followed BY another!

  • #655
I do not think Robert drove that car away from his house.

Only going by what his wife has said!
Id like to know if he hung out with any of his neighbor friends.
Did they go to ppls backyard BBQ's or did they have ppl over t their house or was it JUST FAMILY Their inlaws and stuff...

I wonder if the past had regulated how they lived ...

DK if allowed to reference this, but I read a post awhile ago on FB from someone who identified herself as a relative/close friend of the family, I believe, and she said that summer was the Mayer's "season, '' as they always had many people over, and were always bbqing. Made it SOUND as if they had many friends as well as family, which could well be the case.
Re: the theories on suicide/cheating on wife, it is certainly possible that there were signs of either, but that others may have been in denial, or simply were not readily able to interpret those signs correctly. The point is that sometimes people really don't know, as is the case with all of us. I DK that either of those scenarios fit this case, but only that anything is possible. Some of you may recall a case on LI from a few years ago, wherein a man killed himself, after killing his wife and daughters while visiting one of the daughters up at her college. Reportedly, they all went out to breakfast first. I am friendly with the wife's cousin, and she, like many others, said she NEVER saw or heard of any problems in this family that could have caused such an act. It did turn out the man had been involved in some unlawful financial dealings.
Anyway, it is always so hard to make any sense of these stories!

The other aspect of the "suicide" theory that doesn't seem to fit is the fact that if RM did in fact do that, wouldn't you think he would have been "found?" Same with his being killed by a robber or the likes, then where is he?? This is all so morbid, but if that were the case, someone would had to have taken great care to hide the evidence, which of course could have happened. It wouldn't likely have been a random crime, I would guess.
I guess I am leaning toward RM's leaving voluntarily, holes in the story and all!

Problem is, trunk was supposedly broken. One minute it was empty (where he keeps his tools and other stuff), the next minute its broken. Just for the record...more inconsistencies

It wouldn't matter if it was broken, IMO. I'm guessing he had some manual means of fastening it if he used it regularly for his lunch pail and/or tools.

Why leave the wallet? That is one thing that makes no sense to me.

I don't believe the entire preserve was searched. It is quite big.
