In Ida's own words, the $300 was minimal. To her it's minimal, maybe not to Rob. To most other people it isn't minimal. And even if you are wealthy enough and don't really need the money, a quick trip to the scrap yard for $300 of pure profit from scrap that wasn't yours to begin with is a decent score in my opinion. $300 for 30 minutes work! Again, it wasn't $10, it was $300. Even if you're well off, $300 extra spending cash would be nice. Gas money, beer money, something ida wasnt aware of money, lobsters and oysters money.....you get the drift.

I don't disagree. In my head I think I was getting more at the risk of swiping high dollar scrap from a job site (the risk exposure if there is no "agreement") for the amount of money gained. No amount of money from swiped scrap is worth my job. I'm sure opinions on that would vary quite a bit tho.

I searched crime in the area on spotcrime and saw a Burglary on 6/14 on Nielsen St, at 12pm. It is a garage apartment was broken into. This street is 2 miles south from their home. Also Shoreham Drive East on 7/4th at 418am and on 7/5 Sarah Dr at 7pm. The homeowner came home on Sarah Dr and found his door was open and saw the subject flee out basement door. This was in Brentwood.

If you search from June 14th-7/7th and check only Burglaries and Robbery, its very scary to see how many there were.

Completely agree. However, I've seen addicts do stupid things for "minimal" amounts of money, just so they can get their next fix. For a person In Their normal mental state, It's sometimes difficult to comprehend the risk/ reward actions of some people.

I agree its congested, but the traffic moves. And, if he took Pinelawn Road instead of 110, he would avoid lots of traffic and lights, thereby making it an easy 15 minute trip from LIE to Arrow. Someone who did this trip regularly would go on Pinelawn, it's more direct to Arrow anyway.

I agree, Tracker. I work with various narcotics all day, every day. Would NEVER even think to swipe even one dose, despite street value. It's not worth losing my livelihood over. License would be lost, not to mention criminal charges, AND my future earnings.

Do we know if it was legal for RM to take this scrap? Up thread it was mentioned that the guys (in general, don't know in RM's case) would split the money, buy lottery tickets, have BBQ's, etc. I wonder what the policy is at RM's job site? And whether the policy is set by his employer, the union, or by the job itself (the theater in this case). Who's scrap is it, legally???

The majority of scrap (other than large transformers) would be copper. Copper in the cables and regular wiring as well as smaller step down transformers. One step down transformer (440 to 110 or 220) might well be near $300.00 in copper and would be large enough to need the car trunk to haul. It would take a lot of small 110 circuit wiring (Romex) to make up $300.00. While you could walk away with small bundles of Romex or even 1' lengths of heavy cable, it would take a while to get enough to scrap for that amount of money.

Old cable and transformers coming out of the Theater - Property of the Theater unless they have an agreement with the electrical contractor.

New cable and transformers - Property of the Electrical Contractor.

I doubt very much that the Theater or the Contractor is knowingly letting workers walk away with high dollar copper.

And by the way, if this car was indeed his baby, I find it VERY difficult to believe he would not have had that trunk fixed within a day of it happening. I am starting to distance myself from this supposed car love affair. I am starting to think that he took his car to work so he could transport things such as scrap or perhaps something more valuable, and not necessarily legal, not because he was scared of vandalism at the train station. His car gave him the freedom to run "errands" before he got home. And even before he got to work, especially if he's leaving at 4:30am for a 7am start time with a one hour drive.

I don't think he hated the train station as we are led to believe. In fact, I think he was VERY familiar with it, which would imply he knew there were no cameras there. If he hadn't ridden the train in 6 years from deer park, how would he know there were no cameras installed in the meantime? That was the excuse he gave to Ida for not wanting to ride the train, right?

I agree Jerry---THE CAR is IMO another red herring. If he loved as much as was reported, he would not be taking daily to Brooklyn on the Belt Parkway. I'm sure its a nice enough car--but according to Kelly Blue Book--not worth alot of money so I'd look upon it as a "beater car". And if he hadn't taken LIRR in 6 years, how would he know the train schedule at all??? Try calling for an automated schedule--yikes!!! unintelligible---your best best is looking up the schedules on line.

In the faqs (I am still allowed to mention these right?) It says no id, no credit cards and I believe she said she didnt think he carried those grocery tags on his keys. IIRC

"she didnt think he carried grocery tags on his keys"?? red flag!!!! IMO
<modsnip>

I could be imagining things guys----I had a dream about him on Saturday so my tenuous grasp on reality is.....well getting tenuous!!!

Maybe he didn't trust whoever he was meeting, so he left his valuables behind?
This is if he was meeting someone.

Just a thought—no facts.

Or he was going to a place where your valuables are taken from you---jail, rehab.

Oh I agree, not the follow home robbery type. But I wasn't indicating I felt that was the case but more answering Jerry516's response to my Road Rage theory.

But back to that, IIRC, the phone pinged in Melville at 1:45 then at Arrow at 2:15. To springboard off of what someone else pointed out, it doesn't take 30 minutes to get from Melville to Arrow, it's a 15 minute drive. However, given RM's precise location at the time of the ping and throw in friday afternoon traffic, blows that whole 15 minute timeline open. Traffic and a hot friday afternoon will get tempers flaring....and people looking nervous if being stalked.

With all the road construction, mall traffic, COSTCO traffic--Rte 110 is a mess and can double your driving time.

Yes, agree. I avoid 110 if I can help it, any time of day.

smacking head-----and lest we forget cause I did until right now---Republic Airport and hotels

Phili---IIRC the "payroll clerk from RM's job" stated that the scrap was Rob's to take. This of course is from <modsnip> and IMO suspect.
From what I have been told from members of other Unions its not the "done" thing for a foreman to take the scrap---it usually goes to the apprentices who make the least amount of money. Its a courtesy extended them like treating them to morning cawfee. If the guys on the job agreed to pool all the money from scrap for Lotto tix, BBQs etc then fine. Maybe RM kept a little back for himself. Who knows?

If he was coming from Brooklyn and going straight to Arrow, why did he take the LIE? It would have been much easier to take Southern State right to Wellwood Avenue. This is starting to make me think Arrow was an afterthought.

Initially, I thought this too. But, if you look on a map it does make more sense to take the LIE from his work location back to L.I.

To me, it seems odd with RM's potential income and the lifestyle of the family that $300.00 more or less every once in a while is worth the effort. It's not enough to bail a family out of serious financial issues. Not sure what the policy of the company is with regard to walking off with $300.00 worth of scrap. I know my company recycles scrap and would take a dim view of any of us walking away with any of it. We even have cameras that cover the containers.

It adds up over time, I suppose. Imagine scrapping $300. weekly for a few months. He could earn $3k easily in a couple of months—tax free!

An electrician was caught doing it here:
http://www.abc2news.com/dpp/news/region/harford_county/electrician-pleads-guilty-in-copper-thefts

Not saying RM is doing anything like this, but I'm just exploring reasons why he disappeared. There has to be a reason . . . IMOO

I think the same thing about going home for 10 minutes leaving all his stuff only to leave again. Why not go straight to wherever it is he went after coming home? That is my sticking point. Why go home for 10 minutes and then leave without your drivers license..

Or he was going to a place where your valuables are taken from you---jail, rehab.

The problem with these scenarios is why doesn't IM or LE know if he was in jail or rehab? Doesn't rehab need health insurance or a social security number (medicaid)? Maybe he paid cash? I think this theory doesn't work for me. Maybe LE is incompetent , because they can't find a guy in a rehab facility or a jail? Possible, I suppose. Yet, 3 months have passed.

I totally agree and see it your way. I don't understand why he bothered to drop his stuff off and then drive off. It just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe he didn't drive off? Maybe someone knew of his plans to go to arrow and then followed him? Beats me!!

IMOO the only reason to drop off ID/phone is if he was involved in something illicit and did not want to be traced/id'd if caught.

Again..JMO
