So is the "we need to be looking for RM and stop with the wild theories" a diversion tactic or the oddest request for assistance in the history of missing persons? It's one or the other folks.

The wall of secrecy by all involved is a clue unto itself.

"Help Us, but don't look here, don't look there, don't ask questions, don't follow clues, don't speculate or have theories, don't go looking yourself and for goodness sake don't ask anyone involved in the case from LE to SAR to Parks"

Sheesh....you got to be kidding me. I'm going to go check my shed when I get home...it's about as effective as anything else I can do at this point given what I have to work with.

Here! Here!

the Missing Man they don't want found!

Why are we interested in this case?

I'll bite. I'm interested because I live in NY and very familiar with the area.
I checked the back story, and that intrigued me.

Rob is missing. He looks like a "regular" nice guy.
Where did he go? Why so much secrecy?

Is there more to the story? Why hasn't MSM picked up the story?
Why has it gone secret? Don't they want to find him?

Where's Rob? Why the silence? IDK. :seeya:
Ok I'll bite because I have no new theory this morning.
I have read on + off at WS for years, mostly older cold cases of missing persons, because I don't believe anyone just vanishes. I happened to come in shortly after RM went missing + saw the thread on the front page several times, so I clicked to take a peeksee. :hiding:
I have stayed interested because missing adult men don't usually get much news coverage or attention + the lack of evidence / mystery, intrigued me to follow along. When I was a little Codger, I spent a summer on Long Island so I had a vague mental image of the area too. I think what has kept me here is that RM looks "to me" like a regular family guy who just vanished into thin air one day, and I just don't believe that happens, so I believe there is much more to the story. I recall when Ray Gricar went missing, many theorized he too just waltzed off into the sunset to "get away" / start a new life. His car was found "clean" like RM's in a parking lot away from his home. I always thought he met up with someone very "bad". To my knowledge he has never been found. RM's case often reminds me of his. When things happen like the 2 cars with 6 sets of skeletal remains being drug out of Lake Foss in (I think Oklahoma), + then linked to 2 cold cases 1 from 1970 + 1 from 1960? - I sit back + wonder - what did everyone think back then + for the immediate years afterwards? Turns out none of them "vanished" or walked away to a new life, the whole time they were right there in that Lake. I don't think RM is very far from home either + wonder just how long it will be before he is found. JMO + I sure hope it doesn't take some 40 years to find him, because I'm most likely to long since be worm food by then + I gotsa ta know the rest of the story.

Also I come here because I enjoy doing this - :silly: Such as this morning when I'd had 2 sips of coffee and scrolled to see the drive by account with staring neighbors + thoughts of jogging with well timed cramps. I do thank the local poster who went out looking, but all I could envision was a bunch of you out there in your jogging britches with your fancy phones having cramps, all the while being captured on the security cameras you're trying to get a picture of. LE would have a field day with that one - You were doing WHAT?! HA! :floorlaugh:

All u have to do is drive your car in the garage he gets on the floor in the back she leaves no one is the wiser.

That might be why the seat was pulled all the way forward he was on the floor.

No one is watching that house as I understand it.
It would not be hard to move around!
I wouldn't know the guy if I fell over him.
Hes ordinary!
Im sure he has a beard now shaved head or long hair
wears a hat!
No one is really searching for him.
Hes not being persued by LE.

I don't know what happened to Robert Mayer
We have a ton of theories out here.
Many possible!

I feel this forum has reached that place where there are not enough clues so the theories really start to become...well...ridiculous. You don't know he is not being pursued by LE, tho.

:ufo:

My new theory:

With the LE clamp down on information (and they are the only ones who could get Parks and SAR to keep mum) this is looking more like a huge facade for appearances sake and LE is probably PO'd that we keep talking about it as others can read this page. Add to it the fact that the social media sites were a complete train wreck, this theory is looking better and better all the time.

I think we pretty much know he isn't.

Ill go back to my original thought...

he decided to go out that night and he didn't return home His wife calls
and says hes missing....he could be totally mortified she did this and chose to remain gone!

I hope he safe out there but when u really think about it no matter what your theory if he took off ran away has a new wife etc he would have called someone..... His BIL for heavens sake.

Something is very wrong here and I don't think Robert is being persued im thinking they are looking elsewhere.

We go back to the car?
why hold that car?

Is the car held?
do we know this as fact?

I understand your frustration, I really do. Having been involved in the missing persons case of my friend and now this one, I see many similarities and I understand both sides - the family and the public. The family wants their loved one found, and if possible - could it be without digging up old hurtful secrets, without accusing them of committing a crime, speculating all kinds of things about someone they do not know at all? They want people to care to get the word out. They even answer questions at first, just to have places like this tear apart every little word and turn it back around on them.

Then there is the public side of it - they have been asked to help. They have many questions after they first read an article. For example, there is a missing woman in my friend's home town in SC. I went online the other night and asked what neighborhood she lived in, and got my head bit off. How dare I ask? Well, the reason I was asking is I could check the sex offender registry for that neighborhood, maybe statistics of recent crimes in the area, maybe cameras in the area that would have caught her or her perp on them. It was her best friend who replied so angrily, she doesn't want to talk about it, she wants the police to be able to do their job, and doesn't want to hear from outsiders unless they actually saw the missing woman's face. Do I think this means her best friend did it? No! I just think this shows you yet again - how people have NO clue how to act/re-act in these circumstances, and often they learn the hard way later on - maybe the police don't care as much as a concerned citizen with not as much on their plate as the police have, etc.

Something attracted me to Robert's case, maybe the family portrait, maybe the fact that I know missing adults don't get he attention they deserve. I believe his wife is truly suffering and truly doesn't know where he is, and her nerves are overwrought at this point and she feels frozen. JMO. I hope things get unstuck soon, for Robert's sake, for her sake, his entire family. The kids, --- I can't even imagine what I would tell my kids. I do believe this is a real family in real trauma. JMO, etc.

I agree with one thing...something IS very wrong here.
Firstly, we know nothing as fact. LE has never made public statement and they
Are the only ones with the facts.

Maybe the car is being held because evidence was found? This could be the reason for LE's silence. They, clearly, would not make public statement if this were the case. IMO

No, we don't know that. All it would take is a simple phone call to the number on the flier to ask if there is a detective assigned to this case still. Maybe you could even ask them yourself if they still have his car.

Most definitely!
Evidence could very well have been found.
Ya know its true when LE is silent they usually have their eyes on the prize!

Perhaps they know he is no longer with us.

Something seemed to shift a few weeks ago. No searches, no requests to put posters up, everything locked down.

I suggest for those who like to change their theory as often as they change their clothes that giving our verified insider's posts a second read might be enlightening. There are subtle (and not so subtle) hints that may be meaningful.

And that's not to say I haven't changed my own theory often... ;) It's hard to stick with one for a long time on this case that's for sure.

Agreed. I think i have read through the posts a dozen times. Something catches my eye each time.

THE CAR - glitter + all that jazz.
I mentioned before - look how long the car Maura Murray was driving was held when there was "no foul play" considered. It was registered in her father's name + HE could not get LE to release it to him. Made no sense. Do we even know if they still have RM's car? IIRC it was mentioned very early that it had been / was being processed. I don't recall any mention of those results or if the car was returned to IM?

I guess like Tracker said, I might as well go look in my garage, because a whole family could be hiding out in there amongst my sheet + I wouldn't have a clue.

I agree with you Eliza on "the shift"---very different vibe.

I hope our verified insider pops in to give an update, a "hello" or something.

I would imagine it is pretty standard for them to hold the car. If this became a criminal investigation at some point they would feel pretty stupid for turning it back over to the family.

Part of the ever changing theories happening on this thread for Robert is because not much info is known.
Maybe NCNY could come back on, and give us more info about Robert Mayer.
Give the background of Robert's likes and dislikes, his personality, etc.
IMOO.

Possibly. But JMO - then there is Ray Gricar's car which was returned to his housemate pronto once they'd processed it. It seems (to me) that each case is different + I honestly don't know why they sometimes return them right away + sometimes hold them forever. Once they've processed it what more could they get from it? At that point they've gone it over it with a fine tooth comb, so what's the point in holding it?

I think if they believe foul play is involved they may need it for evidence.

And I do think there was foul okay involved.

:(

Maybe because the family doesn't need the car so they may as well hold the actual evidence and not just the notes about the evidence? Maybe each jurisdiction handles this differently. Where is Gricar missing from?
