Details of Disappearance
Bennett, a friend, Sasha Davis, and Sasha's daughter, Selah Davis, left the New York City borough of the Bronx on February 15, 2008. They were en route to Rochester, New York to visit friends and planned to return on February 19. They have never been heard from again. On February 27, their vehicle was found abandoned in southwest Rochester.

Bennett left behind a wife and two daughters, and Sasha left another daughter. It is uncharacteristic of them to leave without warning. Little evidence is available in their disappearances; they remain unsolved.

The link to the obituary for a Jarib Bennett of the same birthday described above no longer works. Others do.

I wonder what the source of the March 1, 1980 birth date was for the missing individual was and if it is accurate. If it was confusion over records of two individuals with the same name, that would explain part of the high degree of coincidence.

I thought it was unusual Sasha was so much older than Jarib, whatever their relationship was, though certainly not impossible.

This local Rochester article from 2009 or 2010 ("nearly 2 years" since the disappearance) actually identified him as 2 years older than she was, not a decade or so younger.

If he was 34 in February of 2008, that would put his birth year as likeliest 1973, possibly 1974 if his birthday was early in the year.

Clipping from Democrat and Chronicle - Newspapers.com

I can't find an obituary of the individual who died in 2017 with a photo, but a blog out there has a side by side of that individual (it claims) and the individual who is missing. I don't think they look alike.

Putting all that aside, I did find a credible tidbit out there that I don't think is in this thread yet - my bad if I missed it - that apparently they were traveling to "collect a large sum of money".

Adding articles from links posted by JaneDrew so others can read them.

Jane Drew, date of births for all 3 of them is stated on missing person poster (also in your link) and poster was made by NY police. Unless they have it wrong I would go by this most reliable source, not newspaper. News article was written 2 years later and go by the age they would be at that time, not at the time of disappearance, hence Sasha is listed there as 32 year old. Not sure why they are listing him as 34 but unless it is confirmed by more reliable source I would stick to the age on the missing poster.

Missing poster - Sasha is listed as 30 (almost 31) and Jared 27 (almost 28) at the time of their disappearance so not that huge age difference.

As far as we are all aware they were only family friends and both lived elsewhere. Unless it is stated differently by official sources or the family we can't assume otherwise.

Very good find about picking up large sum of money and hence possible motive.

It looks like the DECEASED Jarib Bennet was getting his eyebrows done. If you take a look, the area is lighter than the rest of his skin color.

That’s how it looks when you get your eyebrows waxed. The MISSING Jarib Bennett had a little pointed hair area on his right eyebrow.

I’m just speculating <modsnip - off limits> but I heavily believe this is the same person.

The DECEASED Jarib Bennett has no footprint on the internet until his obituary was posted. I believe he was laying low, but why?

It also looks like he was getting his eyebrows done, in order to NOT be recognized by his unusually eyebrow pattern.

I checked the Social Security Death Index today. Both nationally and in Wisconsin. And ancestry. Apart from this one legacy entry I could find nothing indicating that a Jarib Bennett born in 1980 died in Wisconsin (or anywhere In the U.S. in 2017. I guess it’s always possible I could have missed it but I spend way too much time on Ancestry as it is and I usually find whatever I set out to find. But I wonder if Legacy requires an official death certificate in order to post an online memorial? I’ll look up their criteria next.

I think the information submitted to Legacy comes from the funeral homes.

I was told a while ago a woman's relative that she had a baby that wasn't hers. When asked how could that possibly be that the parents weren't looking for her...she was silent. I understood that to mean the parent(s) were deceased. After some investigation, the only missing child that was about that age was Selah Davis. This is her Pic. She really looks like she could be the baby. I have reported what I heard but nothing came of it.

MASSIVE UPDATE!!!

WOW 🤯

There has been a huge update in this case that I think has gone overlooked.

First off, gotta give credit to @Proud Country Gal who did a fantastic job in finding Jarib’s obituary.

It has been confirmed that the obituary in question was for Jarib Bennett. Jarib Bennett did in fact die in 2007.

Kudos @Proud Country Gal 👏 👏 👏
this the Jarib Bennett that was missing??? Same DOB... I thought I read somewhere he "turned up alive" but the internet still has him missing...
.Obituary for Jarib Bennett - Englewood, NJ
Jarib Bennett – The Charley Project

Now here’s where things get interesting.

It turns out, the man who was travelling with Sasha and Selah, whom everyone called “Griff” was not Jarib Bennett. Jarib Bennett was not the one who drove to Rochester with Sasha and Selah.

Investigators have learned that “Griff” was in the US illegally and he took on Jarib’s identity when he arrived in the US. 😳

According to Rochester Police Department Investigator Thomas Cassidy
He somehow was able to get a hold of Mr Bennett’s information and was then able to get other ID, assumed Jarib’s identity and lived in the United States as Jarib Bennett”
It was Sasha’s high school best friend Soyeni, who informed law enforcement that the photo and obituary of Jarib Bennett was not the person Sasha and Selah went to Rochester with. This was not their family friend from Jamaica. This was not “Griff”

So who is Griff really? They are still investigating.

Soyeni tried to recall her memory, however she was unable to recall any name other than the one everyone knew him as. “Griff”.

Investigators continued to dig deeper and they managed to get a hold of someone who told police how “Griff” assumed Jarib’s identity.

This unnamed individual also provided law enforcement with the name they believed was Griff’s real name.

As of this video’s release in June 2024, Investigators had yet confirm this. According to investigator Cassidy
There’s a possibility the name that was given is also another assumed identity

All they know for certain is that “Griff” whoever he is, is from Jamaica. Nothing else has been verified.

Timestamp of 11:43 to fast forward to the update about Jarib Bennett.

Interesting tidbits from the video

- Before Sasha left she asked her older daughter Shanai if she would like to come with her or stay with her great aunt Gwendolyn Hardy. Shanai choose to stay with her great aunt. (Wow)

- Sasha’s aunt Gwendolyn and her best friend Soyeni both spoke with her during the drive to Rochester. Sasha appeared distressed in both phone calls.

- After multiple attempts at contacting Sasha about her sick daughter, Sasha finally answered. But when she did she was curt, and would only give word answers. This was out of character and thus it concerned Gwendolyn greatly.

- Soyeni, Sasha’s high school best friend also spoke with Sasha during the drive to Rochester. Despite expressing concerns about continuing the trip, she continued regardless. Assuring Soyeni she would be back between 3 and 6pm on the 19th.

- Later that evening (Feb19th) after Sasha didn’t show, friends and family made multiple attempts to contact her. Her phone was now off.

- investigators confirm that Sasha and Griff’s phones were active up until February 19th, 2008

- When the rental car was finally found on Feb 27th, it appeared to have not been driven for a few days. Inside there was a stroller, some baby items, and some items appeared to be missing. These missing items, which have not been described, were later found in a pawn shop.

- the car was clean. No fingerprints, nor blood splatter of any kind.

- There was something I noticed in the video that continues to bother me. [Timestamp: 04:31]

Sasha and Selah’s loved ones started reaching out to “Jarib’s” family in New Jersey once it was clear that the girls were missing. According to the clip, his family provided clarity regarding the trip and where exactly it was that Sasha, Selah, and Jarib were headed which was Rochester in Upstate NY.

Ok but who’s family exactly? I guess it would have to be “Griff”’s right? It has to be because the only people on their way to Rochester that night were Sasha, Selah, and “Griff”

- It has not been verified whether Jarib and Sasha knew each other , but I’m guessing that since Jarib didn’t go to Rochester it must be Griff. Which begs the question.

Why cant the family just tell law enforcement who the heck “Griff” is?

These images are not of Jarib Bennett. They are photos of the unidentified missing male known as “Griff” who disappeared along with Sasha and Selah Davis in Rochester on February 19, 2008

Messaged the Mods to change the title because Jarib is actually not missing it’s an unidentified male as per the Investigator Thomas Cassidy.
