During preemptory challenges, the defense objected to the jury members who were a strike from the government. Defense raised a Batson challenge because the gov struck 7 black people out of 9 strikes. They gave reasoning to the judge. Batson challenge denied. (Info is from this twitter thread from @innercitypress.)

Prosecutor Emily Johnson tells jurors they’ll also hear from some of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ other employees, including an employee Combs allegedly forced into the SUV with a gun, as well as one of his chefs and other assistants.

She acknowledges that some victims and witnesses have received financial settlements or still have active lawsuits against Combs.

Johnson is also describing various records that will come up during the trial, including dozens and dozens of text messages about Freak Offs, bills for hotel rooms, car services and damages to hotel rooms. More texts will show Combs directed his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura to take specific drugs before freak offs, she says.

There will also be video evidence, Johnson says.

“You will see videos of some of the Freak Offs — the videos the defendant used to blackmail Cassie and to blackmail Jane,” Johnson tells the jury, referring to two of Combs’ alleged victims, his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura and a woman who is going by the name Jane in this trial.

“You will see them put on a performance, high on ecstacy, while they pretend to enjoy themselves, because that’s what the defendant said he wanted,” she adds.

Sean “Diddy” Combs defense attorney Teny Gerago said in her opening statement that while Combs takes full responsibility for acts of domestic violence in this case, “domestic violence is not sex trafficking.”

Teny Geragos, an attorney for Sean “Diddy” Combs, tells the jury that they will hear evidence of Combs’ sexual preferences and it may make them uncomfortable.

She says the events in the hotel rooms were part of a swingers lifestyle, which she describes as a “fancier term for a threesome.”

“Domestic violence is a very serious matter. It is a bad and illegal problem,” Geragos said. “We take full responsibility that there was domestic violence in this case. Domestic violence is not sex trafficking, I want to say it again, domestic violence is not sex trafficking. Had he been charged with domestic violence or assault we would not be here right now.”

“You may know of his love of baby oil. Is that a federal crime? No,” Geragos says

A current LAPD officer just testified he copied the video of Diddy assaulting Cassie when he worked security at the hotel, so he could show it to his wife.

The defense began with having #Diddy stand for the jury. “Sean Combs is a complicated man but this is not a complicated case…this case is about love, jealousy, infidelity and money.”

I was watching "Dateline" about the Idaho Brian Kohberger case, and it included an investigative piece about Sean Coombs. I didn't realize he has had so much involvement with the law, and court system before. Diddy seems to "slide" out of trouble. Must be all that baby oil.

How many courts are still drawing these pictures and not allowing truth to be as open as society needs them to be? The prehistoric way of covering a case and the fact they try the most converse of the cases , really kind of feels like a real great way to hide facts from people and Jeff Epstein didn't kill him self. I mean he probably should of ,but I don't think he did. Did Virginia? Anyway..They could have tried this case in different locations ,but the pick, the least visible court . Sorry Media I just don't believe ya anymore.

Lawyers for news orgs including The New York Times and Washington Post are asking the judge in Diddy’s trial not to close the courtroom when videos of the Freak Offs are played for the jury, or in the alternative, allow three pool reporters “to watch and listen” as they’re shown.

“Love of baby oil is not a federal crime.”

One of the stupidest defense lines ever! It actually made me laugh, even though this whole case is sordid.

Can you imagine being his kids listening to all this testimony? Most kids pretend their parents don’t have sex. How will they ever look at him again?!

Cassie Ventura -- the ex-girlfriend of Sean “Diddy” Combs -- is expected to testify at the trial of the music mogul on Tuesday. The trial opened on Monday in New York, with the prosecution alleging in its opening arguments that Combs “used lies, drugs, threats and violence to threaten and coerce first Cassie” and then another unnamed person “to have sex with him in front of male escorts.”

During its opening statements, the defense insisted that Ventura and the other alleged victim are both “capable, strong” women who chose to remain with Combs.Combs has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
