''In November 2020, newborn twin boys were beaten to death and dumped in a bloody heap behind a building in the Bronx.
Bronx detective Brianna Constantino is the lead investigator. She and her team are still struggling to solve the case.''
'The boys' bodies were found roughly 20 feet apart, with their umbilical cords still attached.'

''On Thursday, the NYC chief medical examiner said the two infants were killed with blunt force trauma to the head, and one of them had trauma to the torso.''

''One of the babies was found on a wee wee pad and the other in a black garbage bag under the AC unit.''
A DNA profile was recovered from the garbage bag.

It comes back to a female who investigators believe is the mother, but that profile is not in any database.''

"If you have a child that you are unable to care for you can drop that child off at a police department, a police station, at a firehouse, at an emergency room.''

Maybe they're identical. If they're identical, their DNA would be the same, their features, their parents. And since they were found together, presumably killed together, it doesn't seem odd they'd be listed together.

Great point, they are in fact identical twins. rbbm
''Police told Eyewitness News reporter CeFaan Kim that the two infant boys were identical twins and that their cause of death was a homicide.''

Their mother may be a teenager or a trafficking victim or experiencing domestic violence. I hope they can identify and find her and determine who did what.

I think numerous people would have known she was pregnant; I wonder what story she/they told about what happened to the babies. Maybe someone in NY remembers a girl or woman who was very pregnant in 2020 and then wasn't.

It's so sad these babies weren't left alive and well at a safe haven.

This seems like exactly the kind of case for @othram! They're doing amazing work with genetic genealogy. They've got the mother's DNA. This is solvable.

Honestly, I do wonder if anyone would've noticed her pregnancy given how locked down NYC was during 2020.

"What was your immediate reaction?" N.J. Burkett asked.

"My immediate reaction was, who did this? Who would do this? At least one person knows what happened and they've been living with this for four years," Detective Brianna Constantino with NYPD Bronx Homicide Squad said.

I don’t think it’s necessarily true that “at least one person knows what happened,” presuming that the “one person” is someone other than the mother. The visible pregnancy would have been summer/fall 2020. Plenty of people didn’t leave their homes, ever, during that period. (If anyone on FaceTime/zoom asked about weight or questioned why she didn’t appear full-body on camera, lots of people gained weight during this period).

Stephine Castillo, 36, in handcuffs, being escorted by police officers.
Stephine Castillo is facing murder charges as police say she killed her newborn twins in 2020.Brigitte Stelzer

''One newborn was partially covered in a pet training pad, with apparent head trauma and his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, sources said at the time.
The other infant, found 20 feet away, was bound in a black plastic bag with no visible injuries.
Both were less than 24 hours old when they died.''

Was beating one of them really necessary? Seems like abandoning them would do the job, since she clearly couldn't be bothered to take them to a safe haven or call 911, but why add active violence to the crime? So gross and unnecessary.

Sleuthies this is sad...that word seems inadequate bc these little wee babies were given no chance...the community around them showed more concern and caring and love for them.....may Mother Justice lay her hand on this matter.........................and where the hell is the father ???

Poor poor babies, they were also thrown out of the 4th floor window.

I thought they were found in garbage cans, which was awful enough. This is worse if they were thrown out the window and left as they fell.

I'm vaguely familiar with this area and it's close to a over-grown park with steep hills. If she had disposed of them there, it's possible they wouldn't have been discovered.

Throwing the babies out the window makes me think they will be going for mental impairment defense. She didn't know enough to cover the crime??

That woman was 31 when she gave birth, living at her parents and now apparently at a homeless shelter (unless she is an employee or volunteer there). Not a scared teen but an adult woman. I wonder what is the deal here.
Seems she too needs help.
