...Theodore Scardino and Joseph Hofsetter suffered serious injuries and were being treated in the ICU unit of Strong Memorial Hospital, according to Dr. Nicole Staffen, who treated both patients.

Scardino was shot twice, Staffen said -- one bullet went through his left lung and broke his shoulder blade, and the other injured his right knee. Hofsetter was shot in the pelvis, and the bullet was lodged against his spinal bone, Staffen said.

"Neither gentleman is currently on a ventilator," Staffen said. "Both are awake, alert, with good blood pressure. Both have significant injuries."

From what they're saying now it appears the gunman died of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

That 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 ruined Christmas' to come for a great many people. I wish he was alive so they could question him.

The firefighters were from the West Webster Fire Department, about four miles from the blaze, and were believed to be volunteers.

As he recited the names of the four firefighters at a news conference, Chief Pickering repeatedly choked up. One of the deceased, Michael J. Chiapperini, was a police lieutenant in the Webster Police Department.

“These people get up in the middle of the night to go put out fires,” he said. “They don’t expect to be shot and killed.”

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said that State Police and the Office of Emergency Management were working with local officials. He said that Webster firefighters and the police had initially responded to a car fire.

DH and I had just finished breakfast when we heard about this senseless shooting in the car on our way to the market. It's Christmas Eve, firefighters respond to an emergency to save lives/property, and are shot as they performed their duties :banghead: What is this world coming to?

I don't get why they have to take others with them to their grave when gunman has all intentions of killing himself.

This picture shows something very controversial that occurred about 20 years ago. There used to be a bridge at the circled area. People who housed their boats in the bay cried that they couldn't get their boats out on to Lake Ontario because there was a road across the outlet.

The local residents were very angry because where you see his house it takes about an additional 20 minutes to get to the hospital once the road across the bay outlet was removed. The state didn't want to put in a lift bridge and basically gave the finger to those residents. So I'm assuming it took an additional 20 minutes for the firefighters to get to the hospital.

My brother and I are at very different ends of the political spectrum. He sided with the boat owners. I sided with the people who had started a "Bridge It" campaign. I couldn't and still can't understand it. The people who housed their boats in the bay knew when they housed them there that they would only be able to use the bay. Since the people who owned the boats probably have a lot more money and political pull they won out, and the local residents didn't.

It doesn't have much to do with this situation, but when you have two people relying on getting to the hospital it does to me.
