16-year-old Victoria Grabowski was last seen at her home in Flushing on Saturday. She took clothes and cash with her but there was no indication she was having any sort of trouble.

She may have been lured by an older man or multiple men she met online. She may have flown to London via a flight from JFK airport using her Polish passport.

Her parents have tried calling her, but her cellphone has been turned off.

Her parents discovered texts showing that she had been talking to an older man in Britain, and left on Saturday from JFK to fly to London.

Her uncle said Grabowski paid for the ticket in cash, though her parents don’t know where she got it. Grabowski, who is a Polish citizen, used her Polish passport to board the flight. The NYPD could not confirm that Grabowski boarded the flight.

A spokeswoman for the Met [Metropolitan Police] said it was contacted by the National Crime Agency about "a US citizen who is believed to have travelled to the UK via Heathrow Airport".

She added: "She is being treated as a missing person and inquiries to find her are ongoing.

"Officers have liaised with her family and will be speaking with the NYPD."

This maybe a stupid question, but can 16 year olds just buy a ticket and fly... I didn't fly alone until I was an adult, but I feel like with all the security how does this even happen???

16+ is classed as an adult in the airline industry

Heathrow will have CCTV of her arriving, going through baggage reclaim and customs, and then exiting the airport. No idea whether she was picked up by someone or got a taxi.

Still wondering about the lost hours in flight - there must have been a stopover somewhere. It would be useful to know which airline she flew with.

At least she's in England and not somewhere like Syria! Chances are she's met (online) and fallen in love with an older man and is holed up in a nice hotel with him somewhere being treated like a princess. Hope so, anyway. Fingers crossed.

When I went on holiday to NY, the return trip was via Bern, Switzerland. Had a few hours to kill in that particularly ugly airport, so it could be that's where the time went.

Also, as you're going with the rotation of the Earth, NY->LON is "longer" than LON->NY. Flight time is roughly the same, but NY->LON is 10ish hrs on the clock as opposed to 3ish hrs to go the other way.

Yes, she must have stopped off somewhere , sounds like her flight was only bought on Saturday so it would presumably have cost megabucks to fly direct. Anyway, the police will know exactly where she went and at what time.

Have we any idea who the rest of this "group" is that she was chatting to?

Yeah, there could have been multiple stopovers taking her all over the place before she arrived in London. I assume she was going for the cheapest option. I really hope she is ok!

Her father came home from work in the afternoon to find the front door wide open and Victoria's clothes missing. He and Victoria's mother tried calling and texting her, to no avail. After the parents left the message that they were going to contact police, subsequent calls went straight to voicemail, her uncle said.

"front door wide open" is a strange thing. Why would Victoria have done that, putting her family home and possessions at risk of burglary? Had there been an argument and it was a final twos up?
