Thallium was used as a material in rodent poisons through 1972, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but has since been banned in the United States because accidental exposure can cause significant harm to people. The effects include stomach pain and vomiting, “followed by the failure of multiple body organs, brain injury, and death.”
4-Year-Old and His Grandmother Were Killed by Poison, Police Say

"Thallium is tasteless and odorless and has been used by murderers as a difficult to detect poison," the CDC says on a webpage devoted to treating exposure.

Police sources say the grandmother had been staying with the boy and his mother at their home on 65th Street in Bensonhurst.

Last February, investigators say the grandma, 63-year-old Tofoon Man, died following complaints of stomach pains while inside the apartment.

Police sources say they’re looking to question little Wilhelm’s parents about the deaths and a possible connection to a custody dispute.

Authorities "are looking to question" the mother and father of the 4 year old boy. No motive established yet but may stem from a custody suit. What?!

Yeah, that bit has me puzzled. From what I can piece together grandma went to live with the woman and her son. So does LE think dad was trying to get rid of his wife and killed grandmother and child accidently? Or that the woman killed her own son and his grandmother to spite her soon to be ex or what the actual heck?
