A lot of things bother me about this, but there is one aspect I just can’t shake. A man on my street was found dead last night - he is well known to all and beloved. He has never caused any problems and has the exact same setup as the man who was killed on Saturday morning.

Yesterday (Sunday) morning, the cops stopped by and told him he should consider relocating given what had happened (we are close to where the others were shot), but he declined. Less than 12 hours later he was dead.

The media is saying he died of a medical condition and it is unrelated to the attacks in NYC and DC. I witnessed the NYPD photographing his sleeping bag as evidence and it was soaked in blood. Another outlet said he had puncture wounds and his femoral artery was cut, but that it is not considered suspicious. I do find it suspicious. He’s been there for 2+ years, no ODs, cops never called, and 12 hours after the other man is executed he is killed too? It doesn’t make sense to me and I’m really struggling with it.

Seriously? He does realize that the fact that they are on the street is because they have no where safe to go? Did I read this incorrectly?

My guess is that he meant something akin to a Code Blue, where the homeless are urged to go to a warming center for the night.

FINALLY! I hope it is him. If it is, he won't be walking free anytime soon.

Interesting facts on the news tonight. First of all, the crimes in NY and DC were discovered to be connected by a policeman who moved from NY to DC to work. He kept in touch with his old buddies via social media and saw some info that made the officer connect the cases. Secondly, the perp himself was homeless and there's a history of mental illness. His now shocked family had tried to have him committed in the past but were unsuccessful.
Serial shooter killing homeless men is also homeless: family

Thanks for this. I was wondering what his story was. At first, I wondered if he was a misguided vigilante, given the recent vicious attacks by some homeless people on women and people of Asian descent in NYC. But this guy is homeless too. Maybe he still considers himself a vigilante? Maybe it's self-hate? What is this...is it just me, or are the streets absolutely brutal these days???

So glad he was caught! Based on this article, he was in and out of NYC very quickly.

Suspect in Shootings of 5 Homeless Men Arrested in Washington

"In New York, Chief of Detectives James W. Essig said the first sighting of Mr. Brevard in the city was March 12 at 3:30 a.m., when investigators found video of him at Penn Station in Midtown.

An hour later, Chief Essig said, officers responding to a shooting about 40 blocks away, at 56 King Street, found a victim who said he was awakened by the pain of being shot in the arm by a man he said was dressed in black.

...

By 5:20 a.m. Sunday, the suspect had returned in Washington, Chief Essig said. That morning, Washington police called their counterparts in New York to exchange information. They asked the A.T.F. to compare the shell casings. By 2 p.m., the results confirmed the casings came from the same gun.

Mr. Brevard called his father on Sunday and told him he was being followed and plotted against by people from his job as a server at a restaurant in Washington, the elder Brevard said. He said his son did not mention anything about shootings."
