NZ - Gunman kills 2, Injures Ten, in Auckland CBD mass shooting, July 20 2023

I was shocked to hear this on the news this morning. It happened in my city, downtown, about 7:23am. Very scary stuff.

Mass shootings are rare in NZ (New Zealand). The nation is shocked and in mourning for those lost, injured and traumatized by this tragedy.

Something I found pretty interesting and upsetting in the details:

* The shooter has been identified as 24-year-old Matu Tangi Matua Reid. He was on home detention for domestic violence and had approval to travel to the building site.

I'm in NZ and it has been reported he'd worked there

Re: this thread topic - I watched Police Commissioner press conference and he stipulated cod well, manner, would not be released yet....so whether he shot himself or it was result of police returning fire has not been reported

Thank you, I realise I may have jump the gun on that. Is it possible for the mods to change the title for me? I will report this post and hopefully the details about the gunman's death can be changed.

Yah initial reporting did say LE found him dead in lift shaft so my first thought was that he'd done himself after shooting victims

Turns out he did take himself out in the end. SMH.

Sounds like this guy had a history of violence. Have we heard why he seemingly targeted these specific people?
