Obese woman on couch for 6 years

While I'm sure there could have been some mental illness involved (on BOTH parties), it will be interesting to see if this "caregiver" was cashing her soc. sec. checks or something...

This story is from 2004 and if memory serves me I recall that charges were filed against the caretaker (s) for neglect.
The women died during surgery I think.

I was referring to the story from the original post in this thread ;)

No need to be embarrassed!!! I just remember when this story first broke because I lived near Stuart FL at the time.
Honestly I am happy you were repeating the old story and not posting of a new case!
Can you imagine how disgusting the house must have smelled???

...

The show I watched involved the boyfriend tending to her bathroom issues with plastic tubing,a bucket and a lot of antibacterial wipes...

The boyfriend of this woman did not have the mental capabilities to do the same thing for his girlfriend. He was very mentally handicapped from what I remember. That's why this woman was allowed to literally have her flesh grow into the couch. No one, including herself I would guess, knew any better how to deal with the situation.

When this story first came out I put the woman's name into a "google alert." Hoping that there would be many follow up stories about this poor person's life and death. I have never received one google alert about her. She was in the news one day and that's it.

So sad. Who was she? What in her life led her to this point? Seems so tragic that she was only a one day story. I have a feeling there is a lot more ( no pun intended) to who this woman was.

Well, one of them had the money to buy quite a huge amount of food every week ( or more often).
I wonder if she had money and that's what he hung around for?

I also wonder if one or both received disability checks.

....
With that in mind... and knowing we tried to keep it all in check... I wonder how anyone could possibly ever let a human being just rot on a couch for SIX years?? I mean would you not finally say "get off your @ss and get your own drink?? " ????

bawaaaa that cracked me up. :D
It makes perfect sense that whoever is doing the serving would get tired of doing it.
Wouldn't the person get tired of sitting???
What about a bath?
Changing clothes!

Probably. I imagine she got to the point where she could not get up from the couch without help and one day he refused to help.

She could have refused to get up as well Sewing Deb.
Or possibly became to heavy to help up?

My daughter had a friend who had an extremely overweight mother.

Now she could get around but did need help getting up off the couch.
One day she asked that Ariel (my daughter) and I help her..
No problem... but she did become testy that we did not know how... Like I guess we were not holding her arm in the right place or something??
I thought it was VERY rude to be pissy at us because she could not get off the couch!
