Obese woman on couch for 6 years

This is just horrible and I feel sorry for the lady but as Blondie said how do you get to that stage....better still how do your loved ones let you get to that stage.

You get to that stage when you are sick. Your loved ones sit by when they are enablers.

Yes... but before that stage??
I don't know .. I look at it like I did my drunk, drug dealing mother..
There Had to have been a day before she was sooo far gone that she made that choice.

I know she had a sickness and Id hope that if I became that ill my family would get me the help I needed....its just sad that noone in her circle had the insight to realise that they were killing her by allowing her to keep shoving the food in.
I saw a similar show about an obese lady and her boyfriend carer and the things that the boyfriend had to do for her was above and beyond....the boyfriend tried his best to help her but in the end he walked away and I really couldnt blame him as the woman was impossible and didnt seem to want to get better...If someone doesnt want help there is only so much you can do I suppose..maybe thats what happened in this case.

this is an ancient story... but i remember it from back then. pretty disgusting. if someone has a real, true medical problem where they literally cannot move.. then i might feel some sympathy. but this??? sounds like pure laziness to me. i don't understand how it gets this far either.. and yes in most cases, the person has at least one enabler that will keep waiting on them so they don't have to move. i could not dream of standing by and watching a person get that out of control!!! and yes, the question we all want to know.... not just basic hygiene,, but what about the bathroom issue.....???? ugh, that's all i can say.

I think that like your mother there is some self loathing that gradually happens. It's kind of a vicious cycle.
Whether you abuse drugs, alcohol, food doesn't matter. Why do some people hate themselves so much....I just don't know.

...

The show I watched involved the boyfriend tending to her bathroom issues with plastic tubing,a bucket and a lot of antibacterial wipes...

Recently we discovered that we have TOTALLY spoiled our autistic son.
When we should have said NO we enabled thinking we where just waiting for some better meds.. * note* he never melted into the couch>
With that in mind... and knowing we tried to keep it all in check... I wonder how anyone could possibly ever let a human being just rot on a couch for SIX years?? I mean would you not finally say "get off your @ss and get your own drink?? " ????

There was obviously a measure of mental illness both on behalf of the woman in question and her "caregiver".

There's a big difference with your situation with Richie and this woman, but even though you may have "slipped" you did recognize that you weren't helping him.
For somebody like this woman to become so out of control, is just mind boggling. Seems everybody around her was out to lunch so to speak.

Please keep posting the obese stories and photos. ( plus they are better than the dog rape stories- ewww).
All I've had to eat today is a bowl of lettuce and mixed salad greens and I jogged 6 miles on my treadmill!!
Great motivators to stay slim and fit.

I agree SJ!!! The trick is if you see the pounds creeping up,, that's a good wake-up call that it's time to make a change. Better to nip it in the bud than to wait until it's too far gone.. then it's much harder to get back.
Although... you should really eat something besides lettuce.. I hope you were kidding about that!

Agree 100%. What a heartbreaking story.

Heck no, I wasn't kidding, Reb. This topic and seeing what has happened to Keely totally killed my appetite. I had to force the lettuce down.
I'm healthy, exercise regularly and have a body type that is lean and slender genetically.

To be certain - it starts slowly and then reaches a point where neither one knows how to save themselves of the other.

Now if it was me and my computer chair I could see the risk... :blushing: Maybe I need to get off here, lol.
LOL...Now I can certainly see that happening to me also!!!

The obese people in the programs that I've watched talk about how eating lots of food gives them a high euphoric feeling. One man told how much he eats and I don't see how they can afford all that food. It was something like two dozen eggs per day, loaves of bread, three bags of chips, around ten candy bars, etc.

That's certainly not a healthy way to stay slim and fit. Where is your daily carb instake? People NEED carbohydrates, especially before going on 6 mile runs. In addition to burning *some* fat, you're doing yourself a major disservice and probably burning more of your muscle in the process.

Take care.

Seems like you are going to the "other" extreme. Take it from one who identifies with these traits. ;)

While I'm sure there could have been some mental illness involved (on BOTH parties), it will be interesting to see if this "caregiver" was cashing her soc. sec. checks or something...
