What about a KILL/RAPE list in HS? Isn't that considered a credible threat? It used to be. My HS expelled kids left and right for less.
If it's not it should be considered a threat.
Even if the school, or others, reported him, there is not much LE can do.
Kids are threatened all the time, but unless there are very specific details, such as when, where, how, or exactly what time these threats will be carried out, LE can't really do anything about it . Imo

Here's where I think we could make a relatively easy change. If the red flags are reported and confirmed, then that individual should not have access to guns, at the very least. We don't have to charge them with a crime for their thoughts, but I do think we can limit their access to weapons as much as possible. I know, people say that they will find a way to get weapons illegally. But most of these guys appear to be, uh, how to say it -- unmotivated losers. So I question whether they have what it takes to figure out how to buy an illegal weapon.

Exactly. It seems like every one of these mass shooters has a documented history of threats and violence.

If you make it harder for them to obtain weapons, you can make a dent in the overall number of events, and the amount of people killed in each one.

That doesn’t get the root of the problem (people who want to use mass violence to make a statement in the first place), but I think it has the potential to have a very real effect.

What bothers me is that people think there is one simple solution. The solutions that are proposed most often though, will not stop this from happening.

You will never stop this completely. You can only hope to save some lives.

No **** lol.
I've spent a lot of time looking into the incel community and it just breaks my heart.
When r/incelfies wasn't quarantined I would spend some time in there. It's a subreddit where incels post pictures of themselves and rate each other based off of looks, hygiene, clothing, and mainly race. The amount of bullying is overwhelming.
I would leave kind comments with pointers on how they could improve their appearance, like a haircut, certain styles of clothing, etc., and encourage them to take up a new hobby. Downvoted into oblivion everytime and eventually blocked by mods, but I'd like to think I helped at least one of them.
I talked to a few in private messages and they were genuinely sweet men, just very mentally ill and troubled.
MOO
Thank you for your post. It's rare to hear of someone actually being nice on the internet.

So, if he got expelled (which I agree would have been best), well...then what?

I have a neighbor with a disturbed son. The parents are well educated, well connected, strong people - and they couldn't find help for their son. The situation essentially broke the family and used up all their financial resources. We aren't equipped as a society to deal with this.

If he was expelled from school, where would he have gone?

jmo
Yes, being expelled would just decrease the availability for mental health treatment drastically.
While a student is still in school, there is so much help available to them in regard to mental health treatment that the district is responsible for paying.
Once they have graduated they are basically on their own.
They no longer are under the shelter of the school. Imo

Mental illness does play a huge role, though. It's a common factor in many of these cases. Imo

Yeah I’m not sure how anyone can deny this. Any person who does something like that HAS to have a few screws loose. Otherwise you wouldn’t do it to begin with. Anyone who has all their screws knows this is not normal, legal, or good behavior. It’s as simple as that imo.

Now as far as accountability and the term “mentally ill”, well that’s another aspect and discussion.

Nobody can look into my eyes and tell me that someone who does something like this is a normal and balanced individual.

Everyone who has access to guns is not going to shoot up a bunch of innocent people. However someone who is inclined, predisposed, whatever the term one wants to use, will find a way to get the guns no matter what regulations are in place. And if they have a propensity for mass violence, guns are not the only things they use as tools.

On another note, gun store thefts are prevalent as well. I just saw something the other day where LE (ISP maybe?) was reiterating the importance of catching these gun store thieves because if they don’t that means more guns out on the street.

Another challenge is, even if regulations are made that make it soooooo difficult to get a gun legally, meaning “criminal record” flags, “psych record” flags, etc, sometimes these shooters can be first time offenders or have no known history of anything, especially if they are loners as they so often are, therefore making it difficult to flag in the first place.

Now, this is why I think the common aspect of these social media rants should really be paid attention to by all.

Everything is JMO.

“Shoes are piled outside the scene of a mass shooting near the Ned Peppers Bar in Dayton, Ohio.”

Really, really sad.

 Apparently, the school administration wasn't familiar in how to deal with this kind of problem. The killer was 24, right? Hopefully they've all become educated on how to deal with dangerous criminal behavior against women.

I'm afraid they havent learned much. Imo, they ignore way too much, and consider it just being teens whether its males or females.

It still stuns me after making a kill, and rape list all he had to do is apologize. That seems so unbelievable when especially so many have said they weren't shocked he did this. So even after apologizing he must have still creeped his classmates out.

Why wasnt he at least arrested for making threats he said he was going to do?

It doesnt matter who makes threats to harm others...both genders deserve protection. Unfortunately it isnt a gender specific problem with those who want to do grave harm. They target easy soft target areas that winds up killing or gravely injuring innocent people of both genders. Neither gender is immune.

His classmates said he was a bully, and I'm sure he preyed upon both genders.

I pray more than ever before that any extremist individual or extremist group is exposed nationally.

All groups who incite violence of any kind for whatever reason must be labeled domestic terrorists, and put on a watch list. I think the DOJ will take a much closer look now on groups who assault, and intimidate others by carrying, and using weapons.

Even beyond these mass murderers we have seen such violence spill out on our streets...not wanting peace of any kind, but to cause harm to innocent people, and causing millions of dollars in damages in the cities they infiltrate.

Imo, violence incites more violence, and we have seen way too much of it in the last 6 years or so as if it is acceptable behavior when it's anything BUT acceptable.

I'm not the least bit surprised this mass murderer seem to be following the El Paso tragedy on social media. The experts who study them says one mass shooting often makes another one want to do it too. That is why the name of the shooters shouldn't ever be said. Imo

Imo, he had been planning this for a long time, and when he saw the attention it was getting worldwide he wanted to one up that shooter. And he would have too had he not been killed quickly. Yet even in less than a minute he was able to shoot many many in mass.

Like I said, violence only begets more violence. Imo, that is why he decided to finally put his own plan into action when he did. The timing isn't a coincidence, imo.

ALL must be exposed if they incite violence or make threats.

Imo, if anyone makes a threat to harm someone else on any social media site they should be arrested, and charged immediately for doing so. That is the only way it will curtail so many being threatening of death or harm. The internet has become lawless in so many ways were threats of death are made without any accountability. Yet someone can send a threatening email to Obama, and was immediately arrested...rightfully so.

It shouldn't matter if it's our president or the homeless or anyone else ...no one should be attacked or threatened to be harmed for any reason.

I'm so tired of turning on my TV to see people in the street in full rage spewing obscenities or trying to further divide our country pitching one against the other.

This is what our children are seeing, and it will teach them violence is the answer for everything. All of the hate spilling out in our streets are making our country implode. It's like we have become cannibals feeding off each other.

It's the scariest, and saddest thing I've ever witnessed, and I'm in my early 70s.

Imo, There is way too many totally consumed with constant rage, anger, hateful rhetoric, and a constant spewing of nothing, but negativity.

Jmho

That’s not a thing unless paid out of pocket which would only be possible for upper class families. Something severe has to happen to insure minors are taken out of society for treatment and its usually court ordered. I did rotations at my state psych hospital that also had a children’s wing. There were children that had killed other children, ones that had raped younger children, ones that instigated violence on the ward through psychological games among the patients. None of them were there for extended periods of time.

Our healthcare system is flawed in many ways but especially in mental health. So it really makes me sad seeing people posting that there should be no focus on that because it has nothing to do with mass shootings.

True. If you're lucky to have health insurance that covers it, they only do so for a brief period of time, maybe a few weeks at most. If paying out of pocket, it's extremely expensive for inpatient care running into thousands of dollars a month.

Most people needing long term care end up in the county jail or prison system.

agreed. Don't make it easy for them to get one.
