OH OH - Aliza Sherman, 53, Cleveland, 24 March 2013

It's crazy that he could say you can't talk to me without an attorney and then when he gets an attorney the attorney not have to respond to detectives. Could they not have charged the attorney with obstruction? Police should be able to talk to anyone they want through an attorney.

With the death of her ex husband this case will go unsolved. It is more than likely that he was the person who murdered Aliza. I was surprised to learn from reading this article that the ex refused all these years to cooperate with the police and they never had the opportunity to speak with him. Poor woman: she gets no justice.

I agree- it doesn't seem right that a person of interest or suspect can get away with not speaking with law enforcement.

Gregory Moore at a hearing in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in 2016.Marvin Fong/Plain Deale
“During this timeframe, an individual who was either Moore or an unknown co-conspirator approached Sherman from East 12th Street, circled behind her, chased her … and then stabbed her over 10 times,” the indictment reads.
''Prosecutors said the man Sherman was seeking to divorce was not a person of interest and has since died.''

Well, its a relief there's been an arrest of her attorney, but I'm having a hard time believing her husband had no involvement.

Why would her own attorney want to kill her or have someone else kill her? What possible motive?

Is it just a coincidence that police finally had enough evidence to arrest Moore once Aliza's ex-husband had passed away? I'm glad they've arrested him and hope they can determine who actually killed Aliza, but this case is still unusual.

I hope someone talks and I hope what they say ends up being part of the investigation.

Here's a statement from the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, which includes a quote from the Ohio AG. The timing seems unusual, JMO.

O'Malley says Moore "orchestrated and participated" in Aliza Sherman's murder. That seemed clear early in the investigation, when police discovered Moore was not where he claimed he was when he spoke to Aliza just before she was killed.

Yost says, since taking the case in 2021, they used "advanced technology" and investigating techniques to solve the crime. It will be interesting to see and hear that evidence.

Moore is charged with :

One count of Aggravated Murder
One count of Conspiracy
Six counts of Murder (Murder A and Murder B) (????)
Two counts of Kidnapping

Moore was arrested in Austin, TX. Was it a coincidence that he was out of town or did he somehow have a hint that he was about to be arrested?

Link to the indictment

The prosecutor is claiming that Aliza was killed so that her divorce trial would not take place. Moore somehow used a new cell phone and mobile hot spot to facilitate Aliza's murder. The prosecutor somehow thinks Moore decided to murder Aliza because he was being investigated by the county prosecutor's office for a series of bomb threats that took place in 2013. I'm not sure why Moore would think kidnapping and killing Aliza would help that situation. JMO I have my own opinion about a slightly different motive and plan.

''The charges escalated in 2013, when Moore was first charged with three counts of inducing panic.
Those charges are connected to the bomb threats Moore would call into court to avoid court appearances, according to the indictment.''
  • ''At least six counts of inducing panic
  • Three counts of terroristic threats
  • Telecommunications fraud
  • Obstructing official business
  • Falsification
  • Two counts of forgery
  • Possessing criminal tools''
''Records show that dating back to Nov. 2, 2000, Beachwood Police were called to the Sherman house 22 times for reports of domestic disturbances, the Cleveland Jewish News previously reported.

Dr. Sanford Sherman
''After Aliza Sherman’s death, her daughter Jennifer Sherman filed a civil lawsuit against Sanford Sherman for charges including counts of conversion, breach of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, civil remedy for criminal acts and civil conspiracy related to Aliza’s estate. Over the course of the civil trial, depositions connected to the case involved Sanford Sherman admitting to an extramarital affair, details of a defamation lawsuit involving an exotic dancer and a reference to a conversation where Sanford solicited advice on how to commit the “perfect murder.”

But according to Prosecutor O'Malley, Dr. Sanford Sherman was innocent. Ok.

A woman is a victim of domestic violence, finally seeks a divorce, but must fight her ex over a financial settlement. Before she is due in court for the divorce trial that might have revealed unsavory info about her husband's activities, she is murdered, not by her ex husband, but by her own attorney.

An extradition hearing for the divorce lawyer who was allegedly involved in the killing of Aliza Sherman has been set.

According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office, Gregory Moore is expected to appear in court in Williamson County, Texas, on May 14 at 1:30 p.m.

"We have been in touch with law enforcement in Williamson County," Alexandria Bauer, public information officer for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office, told anchor Tracy Carloss. "We plan on having a prosecutor at the extradition hearing. We look forward to Gregory Moore’s eventual return to Cuyahoga County."

I guess it’s fortunate the county prosecutor relied on the US Marshals to track him down. It seems a bit of a problem that Moore knew enough about his pending arrest to get out of the state. I wonder how he knew he was about to be arrested?

I hope they complete the investigation and reveal the others involved.
